Now scientists wonder if those fluffy jet contrails can accelerate global warming. CBS News Correspondent Anthony Mason examines the connection between aviation and global warming.
Short version is that although jets contribute only 3% of the pollution, it seems the pollution they produce has an out-of-proportion effect. After 9/11, when only 6 jets were in air, the jet trails covered 11,000 miles and the temperature (I assume they were talking about NYC) dropped 5 degrees. Overall, they believe jet trails have raised the planet's temperature about 1 degree.
