I had the following letter to the editor published on Friday 7/28:
Bush's actions defy image of a pro-life Christian
For six years now, we have heard how much of a pro-life Christian George W. Bush is. And once again, his actions have not quite matched up to his words. His response to the current Middle East crisis has lacked any kind of respect for the lives of the citizens of the two nations involved.
Every day, we read about bombings that have killed innocent citizens in both Israel and Lebanon, and the president does not believe that even a temporary cease fire is in the best interest of all in the region. As a pro-life Christian, isn't your first concern for the taking of innocent lives? As the president of the United States, he has the ear of the leader of both nations. He should broker a cease- fire first and then negotiate a settlement to the current situation. The lives of innocent men, women, and children demand it!
The very next day I received a letter in the mail from a freeper retard. This is the second time he has sent this to me in response to a letter I had written. It was two pages in length. One page consisted of a letter he received from shrub thanking him for his support during this troubling times and the second contained short blasts of rw republican talking points: an example "wiley/lewinski/broderick- clinton/most immoral administration EVER"
This is a very troubled man.

1. The term "freeper retard" is redundant |

By definition they are all very troubled.

of the bell curve: slow even for a freeper. That's a hard act to follow-something that, on a steaming hot 105 degree day, would make an outdoor privy smell bad.

Why does he respond with a letter to your home rather than in the newspaper? He's obviously 'looked you up'.

And tell him to get his head out of his ass, and start living in the present, not the past. He needs to stop blaming the Clenis for everything, it is an unnatural fixation.

And get a potential vote for '06 and '08. Sorry, but being an active Dem/liberal in a red county in a red state, I learned long ago that if you want the votes, you have to convert some freepers. And yes, believe it or not, you can bring them around. But it takes striking up a dialogue, pointing out the fallacies and the lies, and appealing to their self interest. But frankly, we have truth on our side, and that will, at least after awhile, trump any freeper logic around.

It'd be different if he wrote a coherent and logical letter. But it sounds like this guy - like the one who wrote to me - is not all there.
Besides, if he takes the trouble to look up someone in the phone book, he's pretty hardcore. More efficient to write another LTTE and reach the masses than try to convince a true believer.

with Lewinsky as the answer to the question why is an alleged pro life christian reveling in the deaths of those in Lebanon?
I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that causing the deaths of tens of thousands of humans is slightly more immoral then getting a blowjob from someone other then your spouse, but I'm just a fucking insane liberal.

"a blowjob from someone other then your spouse" but over the age of consent. Republicans of late seem to have trouble with this, based on the number showing up on "To Catch a Predator" and other such venues.

and detail what happened - without naming names. Turn that personal responsibility thing back on his argument and tear it to pieces. Close the letter by indicating that you have turned the matter over to the police because you are unsure whether the man has the capacity to be violent toward you or your family - and you have become more concerned about his mental and emotional stability since there are now repeated incidents.

22. Unless the guy made any actual threats, the police are total overkill. |
|
One could lie and say it's been turned over to the police, but that could then actually make the guy get steamed up enough to make threats.
If he's only sending rebuttal letters, but with no threats, the police are likely gonna laugh at him anyway, and even if not, I think it's rather drastic.

26. If there is a pattern of conduct |
|
that is documented over a period of time this could be considered harrassment in some states. No actual threats are required to warrant police involvement.
However, it might be better in indicate in that second LTE that further direct personal contact is not warranted - and that the authorities will be contacted should it occur. Give the guy a chance to save face and modify his behavior.

The issue of getting things documented early, just in case; and the warning in the next LTTE.
Good thinking! I change my position. :7

14. Your logic is sound ; I would reconsider some of your.... |
|
terminology.
"Retard" is a verb... far as I know... not a noun. "Retardate" is the term you are looking for.
"Retard" is commonly used as an epithet directed at mentally retarded folks by "moral and ethical retardates" who ought to know better, but don't.
I'm a little touchy on the point 'cause I work in the field.
Excellent suggestions in the LTTE, BTW.

Most retarded people are smarter than Republicans, more tolerant than Republicans, and faster learners than the 29% who are still standing under their open skylights waiting to be Raptured.

It's not nice to equate them with Freepers. It's a choice to be a freeper, but it's not a choice to have mental retardation.

I got phone calls in the middle of the night for a week ... until I initiated some measures that the cops could use against the callers ...
funny thing was, they sent a cop who liked W ... of course, he got more "angry with me" (kidding way) when he found out I was a Steelers fan (I'm deep in Browns territory) ...
