the reaction against mel gibson shows just how screwed up our culture is
ooooh, mel gibson said some nasty things about jews!!!
ooooh, mel gibson said some nasty things about women!!!
ooooh, mel gibson said some nasty things about cops!!!
ooooh, mel gibson might have ruined his career!!!

what a bad boy!
what a p.r. gaffe!

screw all that. not to defend any of that for one minute, but i think we're all losing sight of the really important thing.

why isn't anyone upset that this jerk was DRIVING DRUNK????

personally, i prefer my bigots to be sober when on the road. they can curse my religion all they want as they safely pass my hebrew ass.

in fact, i'd rather share the road with sober bigots than drunkards who respect my religion.

what's the bigger crime here?

1. Actually....
The biggest crime is why anyone give a shit about anything Mel Gibson does. America shows that celebrity is what it's important.:eyes:

2. ooooh, ooooh, ooooh,
Yes - the only issue of real significance is that he was drunk.

The rest of the ooooh's are just media issues because he's famous. I'm sure that many people say really stupid things when they're drunk and when you get down to it he's really no different from the rest of us.

3. I agree with you on all points
I'd also add that I'd rather hear someone say something stupid drunk than stupid sober.

Drunk people say the damndest things in their disinhibition, but it's often not what they really think or believe or act on, when they're sober. I think it's blown out of proportion. The guy who was reporting it actually said, and I quote, "it's outrageous, OUTRAGEOUS I tell you . . . .!"

I have no great love for Gibson, but really, it seems everyone has an agenda.

And the bastid was drunk and behind the wheel - that's the real issue. I would say "crucify him" but that would be in really REALLY bad taste.

:P

4. Probably because that's what drunks DO
Face it, alcohol is a bad drug. It tells a drunk that he's on top of the world, that his faculties are sharper, that everybody's gonna love him.

How many times have you heard "I drive better when I've had a few," come out of the mouth of somebody who's had a few?

It's one reason I think kids ought to start on beer and wine while they're still riding bicycles, harder to claim alcohol does anything but make you a bumbling dolt when you're covered with road rash from falling off that bike.

It's hard to know what to do about all those drunks that are dong what comes naturally, thinking they're Superman and getting into their cars. Anybody over the age of 25 who gets popped for DUI clearly has a problem and pulling the license doesn't do a bit of good, they just drive without it. We need to pull the CAR, impound it, flag their names at the DMV so they can't get another one, keep cars away from them until they've had a year of clean random alcohol screens.

Gibson's a rich man and he knows he's made a total mug of himself. With any luck at all, he'll get into Betty Ford and start the road to recovery. It's a tough road to follow and I wish him luck.

As for the hoopla about what he said, it's just a bunch of "I told you he was a Jew hater," from people who thought it when his religious snuff movie came out.

6. I can forgive the drunk driving.
It's not an issue, IMHO. Let the guy pay the fine and suspend his license, or whatever it is that they do. Let the courts handle it.
