Robert Downey, Jr. comes to Mel's defense
My attempt at irony.

Hasn't really happened, but don't think it will take too long. Mel always stood up for Robert and if anyone can understand Mel's situation, he can.

2. I have no idea what you're talking about.
I'm not part of the culture that surrounds me.

I also don't know who any of those people are that the grocery-store tabloids always refer to by their first names. I guess I'm the only dweeb in America that isn't on a first-name basis with all the celebrities. Or I suppose they're celebrities, even though I don't celebrate them or have any idea why I should.

3. hmmmm
It will be interesting to see if Robert does come to Mel's defense. The interesting part being that Downey is jewish.

5. Hence the irony, on multiple levels.
Think he will probably come forward for his friend before the dust settles on this.

6. Mel gave Downey his first job after he got out of prison
Downey's comeback began two years ago when his friend Mel Gibson, with whom he starred in "Air America" in 1990, gave him a major role in "The Singing Detective." Then Gibson called Joel Silver, who produced the "Lethal Weapon" films and knew Downey from when they worked together on "Weird Science" in 1984.

"Back then, Robert was funny, sharp and interesting, and I thought he had a great future," remembers Silver. "Then he got into some stuff. Mel said, 'This guy is clean and focused. If you're going to help him, now's the time.'

"So I decided I'd give him 'Gothika.' Robert had to put up his whole salary for insurance, but he got a big chunk of it back. That solved his problem."

7. He is pretty cool
He was also in the fantastic "Good night and good luck" and "Scanner Darkly". Plus, his wife produced "V for Vendetta". Pretty awesome couple if you ask me!

I do think it will be verrrry interesting what Downey's reaction will be, if any. Keeping my eyes open.
