People in their own States could vote on how much their Senators and Representatives got paid?
Would you support this?
How much would you pay them?

7. Well, that is one way to raise the minimum wage! |
|
I'd say three times the minimum wage, though, since they *do* have to maintain two homes.

The people should also have a say on congressional pay raises. Isn't such a sweet deal when they unanimously vote themselves a raise?

6. I think it would have unintended consequences |
|
It might very well make them more open to bribary, for example. Because, with a few exceptions, most would lose money. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

|
I know, we're there anyway, but it would totally guarantee it.

9. You'd have a heck of a time finding people to run.... |
|
...because I doubt the public would vote to pay them even half as much as they earn currently. And once you factor in campaigning and putting your personal and professional life under the microscope, I doubt many would be interested in the job.

10. i know i'm in a VERY small minority, but i'd jack their pay up to the moon |
|
give 'em something like $2,000,000 a year. that should go a long way toward removing the temptation of stupid junkets and other thinly veiled forms of legalized bribery.
SOMEONE WILL OWN THEM. might as well be us.

11. I think we should leave thier present pay as is. BUT, |
|
anymore raises should be voted on by the people. Maybe if we tied it to the presidential election. It seems that they recieve a fair salary, but when all the "perks" are added in, it`s rediculous. If you just look at the way Lieberman has become so hysterical about hanging onto his seat, you realize that something is wrong. Our congresspeople seem to have forgotten that they work for US. Since WE are thier employers, shouldnt WE have some say in thier raises? I have often wondered about this, but it seems to have no support. Wouldn`t it be sweet if we could all give ouselves raises, even if our employers felt we had not earned them??
