Lieberman tries the smear - Implies Lamont is a Racist
Breaking: Lieberman tries the smear
By Stirling Newberry

Word from a commenter on mydd.com, and confirmed from a source on the ground is that either the Lieberman campaign, or his proxies, are blanketing African-American churches with fliers that imply that Ned Lamont is a racist. It is the final meltdown in the hysterical last days of Joe Lieberman's attempt to hold on to power inside the Democratic Party.

On July 31, 2006 - 12:15am Maura in VA said:
Stirling, the flyer was definitely from the Lieberman campaign, not a proxy. It was placed on windshields of cars parked in church parking lots during services. It was accompanied by a standard piece of Lieberman lit.

The bottom of the flyer said that it was authorized and paid for by Friends of Joe Lieberman and printed "in-house with volunteer labor". (Yet again the Lieberman campaign avoids patronizing union copy shops.)

The front of the flyer had a picture of Lieberman with Clinton and mentioned Lieberman's civil rights accomplishments of 40 years ago - marching with MLK and working on voting rights in Mississippi.

The back was about Ned Lamont cancelling his membership in the expensive Round Hill Country Club in Greenwich, including a quote from the New York times in which Ned acknowledged that most of the members of the club were white. The contrast was obviously implying that Ned Lamont is a rich racist.

The flyer was on the windshield of my family's car at a Catholic church.

6. I'm starting to wish Holy Joe had won the 2004 primary.
At least he knows how to fight dirty.

Doh! I forgot. He only knows how to fight dirty when there's an actual Democrat facing him. If it's a repub he just stands there cow eyed, hoping to get cheneyed by them after the debate as well as during.

8. Sounds like Mark Green here in NYC when he was running for
mayor six years ago. In the Democratic Primary Green was pretty much a favorite and he was running against fellow Democrat Freddie Ferrer. I worked on Ferrer's campaign at the time.

Green's campaign committee was not satisfied with the fact that he was already out front, so to ensure a racist vote, they distributed fliers of a cartoon of Ferrer bending over and kissing Al Sharpton's ass. These fliers were distributed throughout Jewish neighborhoods in NYC and the boroughs, especially Brooklyn. When they were discovered, Green swore innocence and said that his campagn committee had issued the fliers without his knowledge. Green's brother was implicated in the flier plan and distribution. The upshot of the deal was that Green soured himself with the black voters and he just barely won the primary.

Michael Bloomberg, a one-time Democrat who, like Giuliani was not allowed to run by the Party so he joined the Republicans and won the mayoral race.

The Lobby which has infiltrated local politics as well as national and international, is running the NYC Democratic Party as well as running the Repuublican Party. It is they who decide who will run and who will win. But Americans don't want to believe this...YET.

10. Reminds me of
one of Paul Wellstones early runs for the Senate-his opponent brought up the fact that Paul and his wife were not raising their children as Jews. Both Paul and his opponent were Jewish, Mrs. Wellstone was not What made that one so bad was that Rabbinical law has some rules about the children of "mixed" marriages if the mom is Jewish so are the children if it's dad they don't count- has to do with the Bibles "high" regard of womens morals. Anyway just more desperate repuke election hypocrisy.

11. Joe, Save Some Dignity
Please. If you lose to Lamont but don't resort to attacks or trying to run as an Independent, you will keep your dignity. People will conveniently forget that you lost because you were seen as too cozy with Dubya's administration and you will gain status as a sort of elder statesman of the Democratic Party.

But this way, you're just seen as dirty. If you win it will be Pyhrric victory. If you lose, you will be seen as a sore loser.
