Dolphins coach Nick Saban says no thanks to dinner with Bush.
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 01:15 PM by trumad
DAVE -- When the White House called with an invitation to dine with President Bush, Dan Marino took it. But the coach of his former team said no.

Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Monday that his obligations at training camp took priority over a chance to meet the president.

"It was really a tough decision,'' Saban said. "I feel like my first responsibility is our team.

Wouldn't be great if all NFL coaches acted this way?

4. Well, while it's neat, I wouldn't read too much into it.
This part was snipped off his quote:

"That in no way disrespects the importance of the opportunity I would have loved to have had to spend dinner with the President."

10. I read more into it than you did
"I would have loved to have had to spend dinner with the President."

Not Bush. He was at LSU for years, and knows what Bush did after Katrina. He wouldn't criticize Bush in his position, but no way I believe his practice was so valuable that he couldn't take one evening off to meet the president in Miami. That's not an honor anyone turns down lightly. Saban bowed out politely, but that's a transparent excuse. IMHO.

16. And perhaps he was implying he'd have gladly made the time
to dine with a Real president.

5. sorry- story not as good as it sounds...

to me, anyway. I would have prefered he turned it down because he didn't want to shake the bloody hands of this war-profiteer, megalomaniacal, mentally addled Chimpanzee.

I was really hoping one of the "American Idol" contestants would have begged out for that reason- maybe it would have caused a little accidental thinking among the brain-dead set.

12. I never liked Dan Marino, and now I dislike him even more.
As far as Saban goes...who knows what he was thinking.
But the thing that bugs me about this is... who the fuck is this guy, a KING?
You get summoned to dinner and you have to go and if you don't, it's a news story?

Can anyone tell me who those clowns are in the picture above?
One of those guys looks like dumb-ass Tom Brady but he's in training camp, right?
I'd like to avoid the Christmas rush and start hating them now.

10-6 Phins and a win in the fisrt playoff game.

PS: we'd go 8-7 if it wasn't for the Pats. Those two wins will bump us to the 10 win season.

on edit...make that 8-8
