Got an "RNC membership drive" letter - with an appeal for money
How shall I return it? It is postage paid by the RNC. So should I fill it with pennies or buy some lead weights to put in there? And should I include a note to thank them for including me?
The card I got with it could come in handy during the election year. Whad'ya think?

1. Wrap up a brick and tape the envelope to it.
What the hell, wrap up a cement block.

19. Send them a letter.
Say you already contributed when you lost $50 playing slots at an Indian casino. Ask them how much face time that'll get you with Bush.

22. Just wondering
why did you get a letter? The RNC during the last election called my Mom and told her "thanks" for the donation and asked if she would like to donate again. My parents don't donate to parties or anything like that (if they do anything it's with our church like we all did a fundraiser for the Red Cross after Katrina) so my Mom told her she didn't donate her money and was sure my Dad didn't either and no thanks. I thought that was so rude!

24. @ 18 years ago I declared republican to vote in their primary
I had been registered indy although seldom voted anything but Dem. Our repuke (and really shitty) governor was having a real challenge from another very moderate republican. Since we never vote a governor out I thought this was the only chance to get rid of him.
This was in Iowa @ 1988 or so. The governor was Brandstadt and the challenger was Fred Grandy. Grandy's major claim to fame was as Gopher on the Love Boat TV show. He was, however, a very intelligent congressman with moderate views. The Iowa Dems hardly challenged Brandstadt who in total was governor for about 18 years. Grandy came close, losing 51 - 49%. After the primary Grandy would asked if he would support Brandstadt. Grandy replied that he would "hold my nose and vote for him".
I have tried to chamge my party several times since then but it just doesn't take. Last year I was poll watcher for the Dems locally. I was sitting across from my repuke counterpart when he discovered my name on his list of repuke voters.
I even got a thank you letter from the B/C 2004 campaign. Lord knows how many hours, calls, absentee ballots I collected etc for the Dems. Shows how out of touch these guys are. I got a fund raising call one Saturday morning and talked to the girl for about an hour and had her convinced of how bad Bush was. Sad deal for her. She was calling from Alabama, was 19 and an unmarried mother. Making the calls was the only job she could get.
