Brown Now Says He Deserves Much of Blame
By TOM GARDNER, Associated Press Writer

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. - Former FEMA Director Michael Brown on Wednesday accepted a greater share of the blame for the government's failures after Hurricane Katrina, saying he fell short in conveying the magnitude of the disaster and calling for help.

"I should have asked for the military sooner. I should have demanded the military sooner," Brown told a gathering of meteorologists at a ski resort in the Sierra Nevada.

"It was beyond the capacity of the state and local governments, and it was beyond the capacity of FEMA," said Brown, former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Brown's remarks Wednesday stood in contrast to his testimony at a congressional hearing in September, when he blamed most of the government's failures on Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin — both Democrats.

1. Too late, Brownie. Our CIC already praised your work.
A "heck of a job". Don't be so modest!

2. Will this prevent him from opening a private disaster consulting firm?
Somehow, I doubt it....

17. No, it's a promotion for it. Seriously.
His "consulting firm" is based on the idea of prevention. The more mistakes he can point out, the greater the amount of "lessons learned" he can point to.

21. Bingo! What a complete immoral bastard.
Of course, that hardly makes him unique in this administration.

At least he can begin to sort of accept that he failed.

as an angle to help Bush get a bill passed to let him send the active-duty military into a state whenever he wants, with or without the permission of the governor.

to any state on his own say-so whenever he wants.

The military isn't trained for emergency relief. The military stopped people from driving out of New Orleans, on the grounds that they might need the roads.

10. The military
is what caught my eye too. Joining the bush obsession about using the military for any national disaster (which is whatever bush declares it).

In fact before Florida's last hit in 05 they were bragging it would be smooth because wise jeb was letting the military be used who were all prepared. Except oops, it went poorly.

I'm sure brownie also has to sound like he learned SOMETHING. But that was an odd thing to say he learned. It doesn't explain turning away water, ice and food that people were trying to get in and the rest of the horrors.

Notice how much he talks about sending in the military. It goes to show that repots of martial law were correct.

8. It sounds like he's gone on the lecture circuit
and in order to be credible, he has to accept more responsibility. I wonder how much he got paid to make that admission.

11. I anxiously await his public self dissembowelment . . .
Oh wait that's another culture, where dishonor and deriliction of duty is not as readily accepted an embraced as it is under the present administration.

Smirky didn't want to fire him because it would look too embarassing so he kept Brownie on the payroll and just let him fade away.
