Doug Thompson: Mounting evidence proves White House lied about Abramoff
OpEdNews

Abramoff, the GOP loyalist who White House spokesman Scott McClellan claims Bush doesn’t know, was a key player in Bush’s transition team after the disputed 2000 Presidential election. Abramoff, working on Interior Department transition issues, attended a number of meetings with Bush during the transition.

Jack Abramoff and Grover Norquist Billing Clients for Face Time with G.W. Bush

snip...

Since we first reported the White House ATR fundraiser and the $1 million contribution to the Capital Athletic Foundation (see “K Street Croupiers,” November 19, 2004), the Coushattas, speaking through Austin attorneys at Hance, Scarborough, Wright, Ginsburg & Brusilow, and through Louisiana political consultant Roy Fletcher, have vociferously denied that tribal Chairman Poncho visited the White House after contributing $25,000 to ATR. They also denied the $1 million contribution to Abramoff’s foundation. Recently the story has changed. Or at least the version told by the majority that controls the council has begun to change. Two minority members of the five-seat council have pointed to the pay-to-play meeting with President Bush and the $1 million contribution to Abramoff as examples of the council’s financial mismanagement. One of the two members of the minority faction, David Sickey, has regularly made himself available to the press. Normally, press inquiries to the council majority are answered by Hance Scarborough, by Roy Fletcher, or occasionally by sources close to the council majority.

According to a source close to the tribal majority, Chairman Poncho recently “revisited that issue” of his visit to the White House. He had previously denied it because he thought he was responding to press inquiries that implied he had a one-on-one meeting with Bush. He now recalls that he in fact did go to the White House on May 9, 2001. Tribal attorney Kathryn Fowler Van Hoof went with him, although she did not get into the meeting with the President. That meeting lasted for about 15 minutes and was not a one-on-one meeting. At the meeting, Bush made some general comments about Indian policy but did not discuss Indian gaming. Abramoff was at the meeting—for which he charged the Coushatta Tribe $25,000. The change in Poncho’s position is odd in light of the fact that he and his spokespersons have maintained for more than a year that he did not meet with President Bush in May 2001.

9. The WH keeps logs of everything
They knew every time Monica entered the WH and where she went. I think the Tribe now wishes not to perjure themselves. W knows this also. Scotty is acting like a clown in freefall. He's almost like Rove, a pudgy sissy type.

5. WOW!
The lead paragraph in the link:

"White House claims that President George W. Bush doesn’t know corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff may soon rank up there with “I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky” as a blatant public lie destroyed by mounting evidence."

I repeat, "WOW!"

6. Abramoff was a $100,000 donor to W. This is hilarious.
Now it's coming out he attended Bush WH staff meetings.

Sad about Hastert though. I actually thought there might be one GOP who was above the lying and the scandals. There isn't.

8. Hasert is also involved
with some deal with the Turkish government. Try to find the Vanity Fair issue where they interview Sibel Edmonds. She talks about this there.

What a leader. What a fool!

11. This author is a writer for capitalhillblue.com.
Some here at DU don't consider that a credible site. I have no idea one way or another. The article is also on that site - here is a link: http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_8013.shtml

12. many here crap on Capitol Hill Blue... I find it pretty accurate usually.
And what Doug Thompson just wrote for that other site seems pretty right on. He has some interesting connections... people seem to think he's like a tabloid, but he's pretty damn interesting, and has been proven right lots of times.

13. I haven't kept up with how many times CHB has been right...
but I enjoy reading it. I usually kind of put it in the category of gossip in my mind. Thompson is very passionate in his stories - I enjoy that.

Two rules:

If a Republican moves his lips, he is lying.

If a Republican moves his hands, hold your wallet.

Again, it is Doug Thompson/Capitol Hill Blue... so take it for whatever (if anything) it's worth. I have seen no confirmation of it.

17. The WH is incapable of telling the truth;
It started lieing 5 years ago and now it has to keep on telling lies to cover the lies it already told. If lies had weight, there will be a huge crash when they come falling down around bushco's ears soon.

19. the most likely lie is the one about abramoff and rove
It is highly likely that Abramoff participated in more than just a handful of meetings with Rove and the "political" team at the WH. Suggestions by Scottie to the contrary just don't seem credible given Abramoff's role and Rove's position. However, it wouldn't be a surprise to me that chimpy's meetings with Abramoff came in the context of large, widely attended functions and the fact that Abramoff reported 195 contacts with the WH doesn't suggest otherwise. Those "contacts" could be phone calls as well as meetings, could be with any level of staff, and probably includes significant numbers of contacts made by lower level associates at Abramoff's firm. Nonetheless, the sheer number of contacts with the WH does suggest a closeness, at least with Rove, that is inconsistent with Scottie's BS.

onenote
