Need help from Countdown viewers. Did you see it tonight? 1/18?

I missed the bit about Larry Miller, the Utah movie theather owner who won't show Brockeback Mountain. Something about him protecting Utahans? Anyone remember details? (I know Miller a little, but I know the Prez of his Entertainment empire VERY well and I want to call Dennis up and give him a rash of shit...and I want to quote Olberman.)

He was saying that Miller had pulled the movie to save Utah from the homosexual movie and a week later the movie wins the golden globe. When asked about it, Miller said "I said all I have to say about it when I canceled the movie".

If you had posted just a few minutes earlier, I could have tivo'd back and given it to you word for word. But, alas, I had changed channels to watch Jon Stewart. Sorry.

Perhaps someone will have the video up somewhere?

the part that cracks me up, Dennis, my friend, is Prez of Larry's Entertainment company, which I'm guessing includes the theaters? I've not seen much of Dennis the past few years, we were closer when he was married to his first wife, Liz, who left him because she is a lesbian...she and her partner moved next door to us a few years back. They always host the ACLU fundraiser. I'll ask Liz to give him shit too. Ha ha.

I've always thought Larry was a decent guy. He and Dennis have been friends since childhood when the grew up together "on the wrong side of the tracks." By the time Dennis finished law school Larry was already a wealthy businessman (owned a bank, car dealerships, this was before he bought the Jazz). Anyway, Larry was loyal to Dennis and hired him, basically right out of law school, to be his lawyer. Made Dennis a wealthy man too. And my husband had business dealings with Larry. Said he was unpretentious and VERY smart. I like his wife too. But this...pisses me off! The LTTE have been divided. Maybe we could just boycott the Jazz...yeah, right, like sports fans would put politics ahead of sports. (I'm asportual so it would be easy for me.)

2. After Brokeback Mountain was named Best Picture at the Golden Globes

they wanted a comment from him since he pulled it in his theaters.

Brokeback Mountain: Utah Jazz owner speaks

Utah magnate Larry H. Miller, who gained national news media's attention after he decided to pull "Brokeback Mountain" from his Megaplex Theatres in Salt Lake City, broke his silence about the controversy Monday in a confrontation with a KSL radio reporter at a luncheon honoring the memory of late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Miller, obviously irritated by the reporter's question about "Brokeback Mountain", swiped the microphone toward the floor and, as he glared at the reporter, snapped: "I said everything I had to say when I pulled the movie. OK? Anything else you want to know?"

A KSL-TV video operator recorded the confrontation, which aired on the station's 10 p.m. broadcast Monday.

8. There was no quote from him on Countdown other than that

he had said all he had to say when he pulled it. Sorry!

9. KO showed the theater owner getting little pissed when being

asked about pulling the movie from his theaters after winning a major award. A reporter asked him the question and the owner got more than a little snippy by grabbing the reporter's microphone and holding on to it (video showing the owner grabbing). You could tell the owner was mad to be asked the question.

Think Keith was making the point that the owner was "protecting" his viewers but didn't mind getting physical with the reporter. Don't remember KO's exact quote but it was something like this, "And he is protecting people?" (that was the gist - not sure of the exact wording) with lots of sarcasm because the owner was grabbing and pushing for being asked a question.
