He is good at getting the other side to listen a bit. He exposes the right wing talking points pretty well.

13. Every fucking morning someone posts something like this!
I don't especially like Mike Malloy, but lots of others here do, so I shut up about it.

I can't stand "American Idol", but millions of other people do, and I'm not going to carry on if a company wants to show something that makes them money. Obviously, if the Springer show wasn't doing well for AAR, they would cancel it.

20. But did the Maloy show stay, at the expense of a show that you do like?
The OP is not primarily about personal preferences for a radio show, but about the fact that the more leftist shows are disappearing from AAR.

29. Morning Sedition was replaced by AAR Mornings, not by Springer.
I sure liked Unfiltered, but I've gotten over that by now. Maybe they can bring back Morning Sedition (and call it Night Sedition) in Malloy's timeslot.

33. I preferred Unfiltered myself.
I've tried to listen to Springer, but I find him boring. Really boring. Unfiltered was a great show. I'm surprised the Springer gets the better ratings.

39. Actually that is wrong
Springer bought his way onto AAR, he pays them to be on. They need the money so Springer will continue no matter what his ratings are.

3. You'll like Steph
she's already taken calls today and has been talking about the "plantation" issue. A black attorney explained that the "plantation" mentality means unquestioning obedience and acceptance of authority. A lot more politically informative than about a basketball game, I think.

5. Air America is a business.
They are trying to make money with a liberal agenda. The business itself is only motivated by profit. Someone believes and/or has data that suggests that Springer brings in more listeners (thus more money) than Morning Sedition. The decision isn't personal, it's business.

31. Question is, which business - informing the people, or making money?
The two don't necessarily go hand in hand very well.

37. Making money always wins out.
The only way to put informing the people first is to remove profit from the equation. However, since it is such an expensive affair to run, that is highly unlikely to ever happen. Even if it were a non-profit, it would still have to raise funds to operate, and then we have the same problems. There is no "free" press.

sometimes (can't stand his hackneyed comeback of "I agree with you"), but apparently he does have quite an audience out there. I wish he'd beef up his team of researchers, though. IMHO, he's frequently & woefully badly prepared on the issues. SG

26. I Thought When Conan Introduced Marc...
...he mentioned Marc's show affiliated with AAR. Also they were playing clips of Conan's interview with Mark on Mark Riley's show this morning and mentioning Marin's debut.

I think it is all about that Goldman's takeover, and yeah I miss Marc Marin a lot. I think one of Goldman's first actions was to fire Lizz Winstead as well, whom I also miss. I would not want to see the other Mark lose his job, he is nice, but I thought this morning while Mark was interviewing someone he could have used Marin's help. Marin is wonderful as an interviewer, he asks good questions and he is wonderful with the guests, funny, innovative and insightful.

I will support my local AAR, but I was mad as hell when Goldman changed the format and took off Morning Sedition. I think he is a pompous ass and wish they would boot Goldman, not Marin and Winstead.

My 2 cents

Cat In Seattle <---who wishes I could be a radio critic as I love radio more than about any other media.

36. Goldman's an Ass...
Killing Morning Sedition, one of the best radio shows ever... stupid. I like Mark Riley but can barely listen. he's changed his voice and cadence and it's not working. He and Maron were a perfect team. Now on my morning commute I am flipping between Stephanie and Riley and NPR and am not very thrilled with any of them. Morning Sedition should have been syndicated (and that Ass Goldman FIRED). It could have been huge

14. I agree!
If I am home, I listen to Steph on the net. If in my XM enabled car, I switch to either BBC or NPR or go antenna to hear Wisconsin Public Radio.

Springer isn't totally worthless, but lame compared to others.

25. Yes, the late lamented Lawton
is indeed a loss to all humanity. BTW, did you know that he was invented and played by the brilliant Kent Jones (still on the Rachel Maddow Show)?

So, there's hope--maybe he'll do an occasional guest slot on Marc Maron's new show. :loveya: SG

28. I liked 'Pendejo' and his dog, Stompers
For a while he was trying to come up with a name for his revolutionary group (which was comprised solely of himself and his dog, iirc) and it always spelled something he hadn't intended it to. When he named his group TEABAG (for Tactical Engagement And Battle Action Group), well, I probably can't repeat most of the things he said about it, but he was totally oblivious to what it's slang for and I remember him saying, "We're going to travel all across this great land of ours and we're not stopping until every man, woman, and child has been TEABAGged!" and "Our mission is to TEABAG those in power!"

Marc asked him if he knew what it meant, and Pendejo didn't, so Marc asked him to Google it. There's a pause, a clattering of keys, another pause, and then Pendejo shouting, "Oh, my GOD!" and then he hangs up on them. I've never laughed so hard at a radio bit before or since. :)

35. Stephanie is on in my local market at I think she is the worst host
I've ever heard. The comedy is unbelievably childish and repetitive. She is patronizing to callers. There's hardly any substance, just the same silliness over and over that I should think would only appeal to 10 year olds obsessed with their bodily functions.

Jerry is not great, but he does treat people with respect. I'll bet more people change their minds from listening to him than to her.
