Anderson Cooper blog: Sadr City today was a mass of white shrouds

'These men have nothing to lose'

(CNN)

As we watched a feed of today's pro-Hezbollah rally come in from Sadr City, Baghdad, I had to wonder: Did those young men dressed in white shrouds to demonstrate their willingness to die for Hezbollah really mean it?...

***

One of the Arabic-speaking producers in our bureau in Baghdad was standing next to me as I watched the feed. I turned to him and asked him what he thought. His answer was a categorical yes. "These men have nothing to lose," he said. "Their fervor is their sustenance."

The constant suicide bombings in Iraq are proof people are willing to die for their cause....The white shroud is a powerful symbol. Its message is one of purification through the ultimate sacrifice.

The crowd in Sadr City today was a mass of white. A mass of passionate men expressing their support for Hezbollah and Moqtada al Sadr, who use violence as a way of effecting the changes they say their region needs....Could they really believe death is the only way to better their lot?

Obviously, many do.

5. Haha that little shrimp of a born loser

Geee you heard about wesorryworld.com
A website for Americans telling world sorry when bush got reelected in 2004 again.

I called it gut feel, the human instinct, that little thing that bug us when we feel thing not right.

Well, see they were right in feeling very depress very sorry.
Just like animals can detect coming natural disaster
Me think human should learn to trust that feeling of right move or wrong move.
DUer has that instinct too.
And they also know as long as bush in WH it will get worse and not better.
And guess what my guts say they right
Hmmm damn colbert already use the gut thingy

2. How can America get people not to want to fight back?

It seems like calling everybody who fights back a terrorist and trying to kill them just makes more people want to fight back, and makes it more dangerous for the troops, and in Lebanon for the Israeli troops.

I don't think that they have figured out how to keep people from fighting back, but is there a way they could keep them from wanting to? Because stopping people from fighting back against Israel and America would be the same thing as stopping terrorism.

9. It's worked for them here
Here in the US they are able to steal elections, imprison innocent people, take away rights and basic neccessities, and feed us 24/7 propaganda through the State Media Machine, and no one is able to stop them. They think they can do it overseas too, but the people there are too tough and resourceful to just give up like we have.

13. Are the leaders in those countries really popular?

Some of the things that you read make it sound like they are not so popular, but then that is usually in articles that don't agree with America about it, so you wonder if there is a bias. But then you think how much money Americans have to pay to keep the leaders in power, so you have to wonder, if they love the leaders so much, why do the leaders need so much money?
