The "Hero of Crawford" reassigned to the Jail - Punished good cop
Those of us who followed the "Incident in Crawford" last summer will remember the name "Sid Franklin".

A good man with a good heart who implemented strength and courage to protect the rights of those in the ditch protesting the Occupation of Iraq even though he didn't necessarily agree with our politics.

Those who were there will certainly attest to this fine human being's karma; not just a gentleman, but a gentle man.

Seems that the "Power Elite" down Crawford way has seen fit to take him off the street and assign him a spot as a glorified jailer. Catch back, as it were. And THAT sucks.

Hang in there, Sid. God has her ways.

1. I think it would be an excellent gesture to protest his predicament,
with his permission of course.

3. Agreed, with qualification
He would never want the focus on himself.

Nonetheless, a great cop who kept the whole gig together and worked his ass off striving successfully for compromise where none appeared to exist.

Maybe a letter writing campaign is in order.

I just thought folks ought to know.

2. That is really too bad. He was a good cop.
Courteous to all, helping keep the peace peaceful and protecting people's rights. Best of luck to Sid and much thanks for his work.

Nice picture too, good to meet the cute kid in Sept finally.

Edited on Sat Aug-05-06 01:19 AM by blogslut
The City Council? The City Commission? The Police Department?

Let's send those letters. Let's tell them how much we respect Crawford's finest because from all I read, those guys(gals?) were awesome cool.

12. Excellent
I shall compose a written missive explaining how much the participants at Camp Casey plus the 90,000 thousand members of this online community, sure did appreciate the respect and professional work of officers like Sid Franklin. He kept the peace during extraordinary times. I'll express the hope that Officer Franklin will be there again - to represent the heroism that is Texas law enforcement.

:)

Loving the memories of Crawford.

Sunday will be a year.

The greatest antiwar action of my generation.

His "numbers" never came back.

Power to the people.

Having been there, being with everyone there, positive things and energy and all that, helped me much in the last yr. Knowing that there are all we people working towards positive change sure as heck helps through all the bs in the meantime.

Hope you guys are ok.

16. I remember him
I also remember thanking him for being so even-handed in the face of a few RW freaks who were trying their best to make trouble. It was absolutely scorching out in Crawford but he managed to keep everyone "cool" as it were, even though standing out in that sun all day must have been miserable. He surely seemed like a good man -- too bad the petty politicos out there can't recognize that. Or maybe they did and that was the problem -- he had a code of ethics. I wouldn't put it past the vengeful fratboy Bush to have had a hand in all this, since he seems to think of McLennan County as his personal plantation, Crawford the slave quarters, and the Sheriff's Dept his personal overseers.

17. A code of ethics will get you killed in Bush's Amerika
Or, at least assigned to jail duty.

God bless Sid Franklin.
