U r sckd: worker fired by text message
LONDON (AFP) - A company has defended its decision to sack one of its staff by text message, claiming it was keeping in touch with youth culture.

Katy Tanner, a 21-year-old sales assistant, received the message while she was off work with a migraine, the South Wales Echo newspaper said Friday.

The text message said: "We will not require your services anymore...Thank you for your time with us."

"I don't think it's right to just text someone. At least they should have talked to me face to face," Tanner said.

"You're not allowed to text in sick, you have to phone. The fact that they texted me is a bit of double standards."

1. People who don't have migraine think they're fake, imo.
HOW they fire is less important to me than WHY they fire.

2. I worked at an insurance company who left voice mails on
employee's phones to let them know they were being laid off.

How personal.

3. I got fired over the phone one time
and I thought that was pretty callous. The boss said he wanted to spare me from driving to work that day and then have to turn around and go back home. I figured he was just being a coward and didn't want to tell me to my face I was losing the job.

7. "2,500 people Fired by Text Message"
It sucks to be fired like that but she wasn't the first.

Up to 2,500 workers at personal injury claims firm The Accident Group have been made redundant - many of them learning of their fate by text message.

The redundancies came after The Amulet Group, The Accident Group's parent company, called in administrators.

Today, employees at The Accident Group, which in the past has been accused of aggressive selling methods, were told of their fate by a text message with a number to ring at head office.

8. Well at least she didn't have to do much to respond. "F U"
would have done fine if you ask me.
