DEMOCRATS ARE WEAK
Edited on Sat Aug-05-06 02:29 PM by lisainmilo
I was talking with a fellow nurse last night asking for her support for the TEABAG CAMPAIGN. I knew she was neither a democrat or republican and voted for who she likes instead. I also knew she didn't like Bush and I believed she would send bags. She made a statement that unfortunately I have to somewhat agree with, though I defended us democrats. She said, "The democrats are WEAK and have done nothing. In the last elections they allowed themselves to be called unpatriotic. They just haven't got it together". I explained that the democrats don't have the media on their side and to take the Bush national guard story vs. Kerry vietnam story and how the coverage was biased. Well she was on her way home and I was just arriving....she wanted to get home. I believe she will send the teabags on October 1 st. Her last remark was, " i got to get home, I can't get into all this" The last remark I made was October 1st. She repeated," October 1st".
My point to all of this is....I think she is right to an extent. We have to QUIT THE BITCHIN and do something. This is a simple and inexpensive show of hands. The RNC, in their campaign right or wrong have banned together in a way that has worked. I am hoping we too, will come together. Do we have your support in this effort? Can we come together as one? Will you send teabags to Washington?

If so, please visit: www.johnlisainmilo.com and tell Washington Enough is Enough!

Thank you, Lisa

22. If you really want to get at the Republicans threaten their donors
with consumer boycotts until we get the needed progressive legislation we want.

If stupid conservatives can threaten a boycott of CBS and the Reagan movie sponsors to get it off CBS where CBS capitulated we can boycott GOP donors for somethign alot more substantial like a $10 minimum wage, repeal of Medicare Part D and replace with with a benefit under Medicare part B, and vote by mail with paper ballots counted by civil servants and more.

See my signature to find out how we can do this.

2. This kind of post really doesn't help
Most of the people who post here are already doing as much as we can. I spend 80% of my non-work time working on a congressional campaign. You're preaching to the choir.

...leadership-- which is weak and utterly sold to the highest bidder, IMO-- and the dem rank and file, much of which still believes in the principles that distinguished the democratic party from the republican party and which works to maintain that distinction.

People need a wake up call. The internet has helped spread the message, being a keyboard commando doesn't pay the bills.

12. We're not talking about you...
...we're talking about our representatives in Congress and the public perceptions that Dems have been on the sidelines is hardly that unfair.

Getting rid of Lieberman is a good first step.

Think about it for a second: there are not that many wingnuts in the country, probably 25-30% at best. Then there are 20% hard core liberals and the rest are somewhere in the middle.

GIVEN THE ABJECT FAILURES OF THIS REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION, we (Dems) should be polling in the 70% range and we are not even close. We're not because a lot of folks just don't think Dems are any better. You can blame than on the noise machine to an extent, but that isn't the whole answer.

3. I agree with her, and here's my fantasy

Regardless of the outcome in November elections, the entire nation commit to sending long lines of people to DC fora massive sit-in on the Mall, on a Sunday before of after the election. Anyone who cares would travel to a pre-determined meeting point, possibly 20 miles from DC, going through neighborhoods along the way. People along the way join in as the crown gathers along the way. Lets have 6 or 8 such lines of patriots. We arrive in DC regardless of the outcome. Our demand is a complete reversal of the toxic policies of the past 6 years. We yell loudest at the Democrats, because they have let us down. But I would hope that by demanding change, we can be joined by Republicans who want a sane government as well.

8. I think you are right that
it is the impression that the dems give but it isn't us, it isn't the people it's the leadership in DC that runs scared. They have the same tired faces on tv all the time and they aren't saying what we think or feel and won't listen. Sure we don't get fair coverage but for once I would like to see one of them be called a liberal or a lefty and say that: "You bet I am, thank you. Who would want to be called a conservative anyway, what have they ever done for the people of this country but run up deficits and take rights away? They sure aren't good at defense either, look at the wars they lose!"

I think that's what people want to hear instead of the constant compromise and cowering and whining about not being treated fairly. They need to say things that make news, that rock the damn boat of civility.

11. Excellent POST! Thank you! Nite Owl!
Yes, Democrats should own up to what they are and what they stand for. They should look the Repuglicans and the media whores and chicks straight in the eye and ask, "So what are you going to do about it?" Democrats should not back down and should not go on the defensive and lose.

9. Democrats aren't weak
only need to pull together in the same way or voters will be confused. Dems need a battle leader for this campaign. Dean or reid will do nicely.

10. The teabag idea is fine, but I just don't understand how this will
help transform weakness into strength.

Will it show we're organized? Okay, sure.

Will it help us at the polls? ??????

I guess I just don't get the point.

And I'm really not trying to be condescending.

The American Revolution took place in 1773 with the dumping to tea into the Boston Harbor. This is a joint effort iniated by swamprats idea to send tea.

It is a simple message we are sending to Washington, that is inexpensive and has meaning and all can get involved in. Will you join us?

17. You prefaced all of this by mentioning that Dems are weak and that we
should stop bitching and do something.

I understand the history of the Boston Tea Party since I went to elementary school.

I'm asking you how sending tea bags helps us win elections.

I can certainly put a tea bag in the mail.

But really, what does this do??

19. Made a mistake head-ling conversation I had.. Democrats are weak...but
the tea bag gesture is an inexpensive and symbolic gesture that most can get involved in. Its a message to Washington that enough is enough.....I was simply repeating a conversation I had last night with a fellow employee...Democrats are weak are her words...The teabag effort is already in the works...http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1813926
We are simply asking for your support. Thanks Lisa

Sounds like she allowed herself to believe the Right wing B.S. she is implying she thinks is untrue.

20. The neocons built their political machine over the last 25 years.
Howard is off to a good start but he needs more time to undo the damage of the DINOs who infest our party.

23. I have to agree...
they all seem to wait for others to say something because they seem to be afraid to and it depends on the issue and if the repugs say it or not, except for Kucinich. They are not like the dems of the past who would stand up to the opposition, this is a time when we really need it and they aren'at doing anything but waiting for an appropriate time. Which seems to be never as laws are changed and our rights are taken away and more and more wars are started.
