Life for the poor under Bush/Baby Blunt
I know this isn't as significant as Bin-Bush reappearing or the Alito thing, but it's been haunting me since last night and I just need to vent a little. I'm sorry I ramble a bit.

Last month, my sister's car broke down and rather than pay for an expensive repair she and her husband decided to just buy a new one, which they did. I suggested listing her old car on Craig's List as a mechanic's special so they'd get a couple hundred for it and get it out of their driveway. They liked the idea so I listed it and while doing so I noticed that someone had put up an ad asking if anyone would donate their car to her - she's a single mother with 4 kids and her car broke down and she lost her job because she didn't have transportation. She was pretty much begging for someone to help her get back on her feet.

Anyway, the car got a lot of responses (it sold, and the guy is picking it up today) and I hadn't gotten around to taking the listing down when I got a response from this young woman last night, asking if we'd donate the car to her. I wrote back and explained that it needed about $1200 worth of repair work so I didn't think that would be helpful to her or of course we'd donate it.

She then wrote me twice more in about five minutes (she has a yahoo address, but the mail comes from an AOL account so she must be borrowing someone's computer) saying that it would still help her and again pretty much begging for the car. From reading her emails, I got a horrifying impression that she wanted this car to live in with her children.

All this while the governor is Missouri is on a tear dismantling the safety net for the poor. While Bush is filling the pockets of the wealthy by taking away services from the poor to pay for his tax cuts. I suppose the super-wealthy Bush and Blunt families don't have to give a thought to there but for the grace of God go I.

I don't know what I can do to help this woman. I've just felt sick all morning that our society cares more about gay marriage than her four children living in a car.

1. Personally.. I wouldn't believe her.
but I'm cynical that way, she asks for a free car, and doesn't care that it needs >$1000 in repairs..

2. I'm usually pretty good at sniffing out a scam
...and I just didn't get that impression. She gave me a name and phone number, and obviously we'd meet her if we gave her the car (it runs, just questionable how long that'll be). There's just a desperation there that seems genuine.

3. I've been a single mother with four kids. If something will get you
by for a week, two weeks, a month, whatever, you get at least that much good out of it, even if you can't afford to get it fixed now or when it breaks down completely.

I don't know what her circumstances are. Just sayin'.

4. Babydoc blunt
has made it fashionable to kick the poor to the curb here, the no vacancy sign was put out in january 05, if you're poor, disabled, elderly, you're not wanted here go somewhere else or just die and get it over with.
There is a huge backlash building, Missouri will be blue this year, if the dems don't fuck it up we'll be that way for a long time.

5. There is one bright spot about the Boy Blunder in Mo
He's going to be a one term wonder, and his opponent, Jay Nixon will mop the floor with Matt, or any other 'Pug that gets the nod(and yes, Baby Blunt is going to have a primary challenge on his hands).

Everybody, both Democratic and Republican, are fed up with asshole. And right now, we're working to overturn all of his Medicaid/Medicare cuts that he made last year.

Sadly though, we have to put up with Blunt Trauma for another three years.
