Our dried up lake snags several cars and a tow truck. Teens being cute.
I had a good laugh when I read this because it is just so stupid. I am surprised the tow truck driver even gave them a break on the cost.

Rescue effort for one stranded car gets bogged down in soggy lake bed.

A Ford F-150 pickup was among the latest fish out of water in Scott Lake. Several vehicles became stuck in the soggy lake bed Thursday.

LAKELAND -- For a while Friday morning, the marshy bottom of Scott Lake looked like a parking lot. The lake, which lost most of its water after several sinkholes opened June 15, apparently looked like a good place for some young Lakeland men to go for a spin.

The first one was Cole Sellers, who drove his parents' Acura onto the lake bed early Thursday morning and then got stuck, according to Jesse Webb of Webb's Towing & Recovery.

Sellers called several friends, who came out one-by-one, tried to rescue him and then got stuck themselves, Webb said.

Brad Cantu of Lakeland, left, and Shawn Springer of Orlando on Friday walk around Cantu’s Chevy Suburban that became stranded in the soggy bottom of Scott Lake.

The tow truck driver knew them and gave them a break. I'll be doggone if I would have done it.

"That would normally have cost about $4,000," he said. Instead, they only paid a few hundred dollars. With the conditions on the lake and the heavy equipment he had to use, "that's what you call recovery."

...""The next person that does that, they're going to pay. I'm not doing that again," Steve Webb said.

1. First read, I missed that the deputy got stuck as well.
"Thursday night, a homeowner who lives by the lake called the Polk County Sheriff's Office to find out what was happening, and the deputy drove with her in her 2007 GMC Yukon onto the lake bed. And they got stuck."

Then the smaller tow truck got stuck, and they had to call a bigger one.

This is just so stupid and funny.

2. I love it. Morans think 4 wheel drive is magic. Shoulda let 'em sink.

I watched a clown drive his new Lexus SUV down a muddy construction road (marked KEEP OUT) in South Carolina last winter and get stuck up to his bumpers. It took a D-8 working nearby to drag his sorry butt back to the asphalt.

Sorry, no sympathy for these idiots.

These are the same breed that zip by you on an ice and snow covered road at 70 and wind up in the median strip on their roofs.

"But the salesman said four wheel was good in all kinds of weather".

Bwahahahaha.

8. Saw an SUV go off the road every few weeks in WV. (Narrow, curvy roads)
That big engine does not help you stay on the road, Chucky.

5. Did you see this article? About a realtor buying property there?
http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060725/NEWS/607250389/1004

"Chris McLaughlin is getting used to the jibs, jabs and a few raised eyebrows on his latest purchase: a landfront home on what remains of Scott Lake. The Lakeland Realtor, who is the broker and Lakeland franchise owner of Keller Williams Realty Inc., is even getting grief from his mother.

The four sinkholes that opened up last month drained the lake in less than two weeks. Plans are being discussed on how to plug the largest of the holes and how to refill the lake.

"When everyone thinks you shouldn't buy on Scott Lake, that's when I think it's the perfect time to buy," he said. "You have to be a contrarian if you ever want to get a lot of upside, and that's what my wife and I did. We know it will come back, the only issue is how long, not whether it will be dry forever."

...""Nowadays these types of homes sell for $900,000 to $1 million," he said. "If you can get a great home on Scott Lake for under $1 million, you're doing something right."

I taught some of these kids a few years ago. Popular and silly is more important than smart.

9. Gotta love those slow-progression train wrecks. On another forum,
(one dealing with Glock firearms) somebody posted that they had reassembled their gun without the recoil spring and now couldn't remove the slide. 4 or 5 board members tried to duplicate the problem to assist the poster and also got their slides stuck.

One person made a mistake and 5 others got themselves into the same situation trying to help...
