1. Why is it newsworthy when a Democrat says he is a "liberal"?? |
|
Because it has been some time since I have heard any Democrat in office or running for office call themselves a "liberal". This is BIG! :)

I'm liberal and I'm proud. (Apologies to the Godfather of Soul)....Maybe the other closet Liberals will display a similar set of cajones.

3. Lamont is the kind of Dem that we need! |
|
Sure, many on the DLC side may claim that we'll keep losing more elections, but eventually the tide will turn. If Lamont can articulate what a liberal/progressive means in POSITIVE terms, then there's hope. I think he can. The problem with Dems is that they have allowed the Repugs to define them and liberalism in negative terms. Dems need to reclaim their progressive--and yes, LIBERAL--roots, redefine what it means, embrace the label. I think many Americans are fed up and ready for a change, but if the Dems aren't willing to make themselves different from Repugs, then there's no hope.
Embracing the DLC version of Democratic party hasn't made them win any elections. It has not been a successful formula. So why not embrace who you really are. Take some chances. The Repug party has been quite successful moving to the right and embracing conservative ideals like it's some virtuous feat. Why can't the Dems do the same?
Go Lamont!! There's still an uphill battle, but I think he'll do o.k.

4. It was a great moment;he also said that he was willing to address |
|
problems "head on" in a "progressive, pragmatic"manner, IIRC
A very can do attitude without any discernible ideology in line with FDR's line to try something to see if a solution can be found(paraphrasing)
Very refreshing

5. Ned did himself well on the show. Came across as smart, thoughtful, |
|
caring about the people of CT.
Unlike Joementum, who only cares about himself, it seems.
