1. I voted "Government Help Me" because WE ARE the Government.

..Or Damnit..We're suppose to be...

Plus I pay Taxes every year which I (foolishly) expect to be spent on the
"Common Good"

"I don't want no Government help" People and She didn't say much after I said:

"Oh..I see..So if Scientists found out that Asteroid #AB7536 was going to hit the USA in
2 years, you would get your friends together and build some sort of device to
make sure the USA would be safe..huh??"

9. Amazing poll results.
What do those 20 people even pay taxes for? Bombs and other & sundry implements of war? "I pay so my government can blast the crap out of other people to ensure the triumph of imperialism about the world?"

A whole lot of John Waynes galloping about this website.

11. I pay my taxes to stay out of jail. Gvt won't help me.
Most of my tax money goes to bombs, some to roads, some to schools, some to fire and police. Not how I want it, but understanding that this is where my taxes go (war rather than positive things), and realizing that the gvt will probably not help, that we will be on our own and must help each other, I do not see qualifies me for John Wayne status.

13. The poll is what you expect, not necessary what you want

15. Exactly. Yes! I'd love to have a government organized to
provide security and basic services in a disaster zone.

I don't have that.

16. No John Wayne here
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 02:47 PM by Nicole
However I'm not a Pollyanna either. What I expect, what I want & what I get aren't always the same.

I pay taxes for the gov. to squander the money any way they see fit. :sarcasm:

17. John Wayne??? Uh, no. Realist with some common sense? Yes.
I would never be so stupid and arrogant as to face down a disaster under the assumption that someone else will take care of things for me. I realize that some people have more means than others to help themselves, but I will do whatever is in my means to take care of myself and my family.

Will the government help me? Sorry, but this administration doesn't have a really good track record. Will my family and friends help me? Of course, just like I helped them (and perfect strangers) after Katrina. But will I do any less preparing because I know they'll be there for me? No. What if the disaster wipes them out, also?

7. My freeper co-worker
was playing the "NOLA people were at fault for not leaving-I don't expect anything from the govment" crap. He gave me a crazy look when I told him that Democrats do not expect anything from the goverment either specially knowing the "govemt" was controlled by the most incompetent administration in history. He stopped talking politics for the rest of the day.

But I know there will always be good, compassionate liberals to lend a hand.

8. I do not expect either government or individuals to do anything for me
There was a time when I did expect that. Then I grew up & discovered that wasn't the way it works. I'm expected to pull myself up by my boot straps.

10. I do not expect the gvt to help me, but community & individuals yes
we will help each other as individuals, grass roots helping each other. This gvt will help minimally.

12. I don't expect help from anyone
I always keep myself a large emergency cash fund.

If I do get help from the government or private individuals it's gravy.

14. We're cool for two weeks, here or on the lam.
And, I'm working with my hood on disaster planning.

The government can't even mind their fax machines, let alone help us.

18. It would be nice if the government could be relied upon to help
its own tax paying citizens in times of crisis. However I know that the current administration devotes all of its resources to padding the pockets of the rich and corporations, and to killing foreigners. Therefore I don't expect anything from it.
