Governors Object to Bush's National Guard Plan
By ROBERT TANNER, AP
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Aug. 6) - The nation's governors are closing ranks in opposition to a proposal in Congress that would let the president take control of the National Guard in emergencies without consent of governors.

What do you think of President Bush's National Guard plan?

2. Yes, and while he's at it, he should be Governor of every state,
while holding every Congressional seat at the same time so we can finally anoint him the dictator that he so desperately wants to be.

Already some governors are hamstrung about the ability to reject LNG sitings in their own states. The 2005 Energy bill fixed that. (A paragraph was entered claiming only the federal government has that power.)

Bush shouldn't even be in charge of tying his own shoes, let alone another branch of the service.

19. That dimwit shouldn't be given so much as a scrap more of power.

He's clearly irresponsible, inarguably an incompetent. He's horded enough.

22. He has already almost destroyed them.........
with deployments to Iraq, what more does he want. This is a decision of the Governor & the people of each state to decide. The guard should not be Federalized unless we are in a declared war.

24. Your title injected a disturbing thought into my brain....
The National Guard is, essentially "state defense", under the authority of the state executive. By having them mobilized and thrust into a foreign war with little pay and little equipment, Bush could indeed be destroying them.

Intentionally.

I'm not ready to buy into my own line of thought here, but what if it's Bush's intent to obliterate and subsume the National Guard to reduce resistance to a military takeover of the United States?

23. I'm not sure
The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 or a neo-con dictatorship.

Who are these 7% that are not sure and even bother to vote to register that they are not sure?

I guess this is the informed voter that we must win over?
