How Many of You Remember Lieberman During the Dubai Port Deal?
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 08:17 PM by louis c
I do.

While every elected official in America vilified Bush and his administration for that obnoxious give away that proved his Administration's hypocritical stance on terror. While even the most ardent right wing Republicans like Congressman King (R-NY) and the most left wing Democrats, like Senator Schumer (D-NY) railed against that insane move. While we here at DU smelled political blood in the water. While right wing talk show hosts like Michael Savage and Air-America hosts found common ground. There was Bush's ass-kissing lap-dog, Joe LIEberman, leading a one man charge to defend President Bush.

This was a new low, even for asshole Joe. Bush couldn't even find defenders on Fox News, yet there was Connecticut's Junior Senator, ready to lend a hand.

No joe, it's not just Iraq, it's everything.

For those of you who may have forgotten about this issue, I believe it was the beginning of the end for Bush, because it cracked his base. Everyone except Lieberman.

1. Jesus Christ. Thanks for reminding me of yet another treasonous act
by Traitor Joe. It makes me nauseous when Joe's few DU Defenders try to say he is a loyal Democrat. What utter B.S. He's the opposite of loyal. :grr:

7. I Agree With You Overall. However This Was Not Close To Being The
beginning of the end for the shrub. The Schiavo case most definitely could technically be traced back to as the beginning of the end. That is where all his supposed 'Capital' that he supposedly had went bye bye. It made him look like an utter fool. Then throw in Katrina and Harriet Miers and all the other shit inbetween and down the slide we go. But the ports deal was most definitely not the beginning of the end for him. The Schiavo thing was, and shrubby was well into the basement by the time the ports deal came around.

his base was shattered because he caught himself in his own web.

Bush frightened his base by saying "we had to fight THEM over there or they would be over here."

This was a simple way to convince those who have limited knowledge of "why we fight". His base considered all the Muslims and Arabs the same. So when Bush tried to "nuance" the port deal, his simpleton base caught on. "How can we fight and die in Iraq to keep America safe from Muslims, and then this moron hands our ports of entry to "them"?

The only people that could bail him out were already against him. He hung "nuance" around our necks in 2004, so all we had to do was watch him commit political suicide. From that point on, his credibility was shattered. Not from us, he lost us long ago. His credibility was shattered among his own. That's why it was the beginning of the end. Katrina, Shiavo, WMD's, 9/11 and all the rest lost him only half of America. The other half always found some excuse or blamed Clinton. With Dubai there were no excuses left for him, so he was hung by his own simpletons. Since then, he has never recovered.

12. Why do we even refer to Lieberman
as a Dem? He isn't one. I believe he sold his soul to the pugs and *.....as witnessed by 'the kiss.'

And I don't understand why other Dems support him....Dodd, Boxer, Clinton. Why do they support him so publicly? Is AIPAC making financial contributions?

14. This post illistrates a point that I have been trying to make
The internal battles of the Democratic Pary are not about "moderate" v Liberal (or "far left", depending on who is doing the arguing). Joe is going to be defeated not because he is too "moderate" or because of one or two issues. Ultimately, the two sides that are battling for the soul of the Democratic Party are: 1) those who believe in people powered government (democracy) and, 2) those who believe in plutocracy.

It's really that simple. The implications, though, are great. IMO, the last hope for our constitutional democracy, for representitive government in the US, lies in the outcome of the war for the Democratic Party.
