Jimmy tells it like it is: Carter: Bush Israel's 'worst ally' in D.C.
I know this is Saturdays news but for the Monday crowd...

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Michigan (AP) -- Former President Carter, who helped broker the historic Camp David peace accord, said President Bush has pursued an "erroneous policy" that has fostered violence in the Middle East.

Carter said the United States should work for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah and the world community should concentrate on a long-term solution, but he is uncertain whether Bush can accomplish a cease-fire.

"It depends on whether world opinion is strong enough to get the administration to change its erroneous policy, which has been to encourage the continuation of attacks on both sides," Carter, a Democrat, told The Grand Rapids Press in an interview Friday.

"In my opinion, maybe the worst ally Israel has had in Washington has been the George W. Bush administration, which hasn't worked to bring a permanent peace to Israel," Carter told the newspaper.

He also calls for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq

11. For the Military Industrial Complex and Oil bidnises, yes...
But think for a moment, if what we've paid Halliburton et al went to energy iniiatives, or space, or ...

Other businesses would be hugely thriving and driving domestic jobs, but the oil men would be only making average profits. It's shameful.

12. What if we paid them to distribute aid to the world
feed the hungary and get supplies to those cut off by natural disasters.
Imagine a world like that.

4. Too bad they broke the mold after President Carter
Carter was run out of town after lots of manipulation by republicans and oilmen. His legacy continues to grow.
I served under Carter and was proud to serve in peace!

The knucklehead in chief is probably laughing about these statemnts, but that says it all about him.

9. You caught my drift
It seemed like the interest rate couldn't go high enough and OPEC was at the height of power.
Never forget the October Surprise!

15. The last thing the good ol' boys from Texas wanted was an American public
weening themselves off of imported oil. The Texas Petroleum Mafia and the house of al Saud have been in bed together for years. They have no interest in doing what's right for America, then or now. It's curious to note, that at the time Jimmy Carter gave the speech and laid out the energy plan for America, fully 76 percent of Americans agreed with Carter and believed in his vision. Then there was the Iran hostage crisis and then Opec's artificial oil shortage. Add to the mix the rethuglican p.r. machine, and ronnie raygun was a shoo-in.

13. I don't believe that bush buys the rapture concept
He's not a fundy he just plays one on TV.

However, he doesn't have to worry about alienating his base when it's pointed out that he's destabilized Israel, and potentially pushed them closer to their demise. His base is jumping up and down at the thought.

14. Yep the Fundies have that in common with Hisbollah
for diffferent self serving reasons both want a holocaust. You will never hear me say that Bush is a good ally of the US... oh sorry that makes me a blind defender of Israel, pointing out that Hiabollah wants the same thing as the Fundies... ironic no... they share this in their religious zealotry.

16. The only trouble
with this, and I'm not standing up for GWB, is that Carter's little accords didn't exactly work, either.

Nothing will, until the root cause is recognized and dealt with.

17. Does this go back to the creation of Israel . . .
. . . and the erroneous contention that Palestine was a land without people that could be made a homeland for a people without a land?

18. It means the Palestinians
got beat. They lost. They should learn to live with it, and move on instead of (and I'm only talking about some), murdering innocent women and children, and then crying to the UN, or the US, or the EU, or anybody to save them from the mean old Israelis.

Either they are at war, with all the suffering that that will entail for them, or they should make peace. But either way, they need to stop their murderers from either carrying out their crimes, or ahving any part in the governance of their people.

I dispute your claim, by the way.
