Why not call a "cease-fire" in Iraq?
Has anyone suggested such a thing? If we can call for a cease-fire in Lebanon, why couldn't the UN call for a cease-fire in Iraq? Would the puppet "government" of Iraq sit down with the "insurgents" to attempt to work out a solution to the war? Or is it too late and only military victory by one side or the other will resolve this civil war?

3. The Insurgency wouldn't respect it
WHy would they?

If we pulled out and turned it over to the UN that might be respected, but even then, I suspect many would see an opportunity to get what they want without the bother of compromise.

5. The Iraqis would respect a cease fire if it was fair
If we agreed to stop occupying their country in the very near future and began immediately pulling our troops out I bet the majority of Iraqis would respect a cease fire.

6. Based on what?
and a ceasefire against who? Against us, maybe. Against each other? I'm not sure.

7. Common sense
Why do you suppose the Iraqis are killing and maiming our soldiers?

Because they want us to stay maybe?

8. It's too late
it's out of the bottle, best for us to back out of there anyway we can and let nature run it's course, all the while working on diplomatic means to set everything right and get all people to quit killing each other.

10. What a good response
If you don't believe that Iraqis are killing each other (as well as fighting our troops), - which it seems clear you don't.

11. Oh, there are Iraqis killing each other. Look at the post above yours
It appears the Iraqis who are doing most of the killing have been trained and armed by us doesn't it?

Or do you think all those guys doing the killing stole all those uniforms?

9. several hundred dead on both sides for two kidnapped soldiers
An immediate ceasefire would be a sane action.
An INSANE man wants Israel to be able to continue retaliating, escalating their response to christian neighborhoods..killing innocents who have nothing to do with hizbollah except the misfortune to reside inthe same country.
