Reserve soldier sentenced 14 days detention for refusing to take part in war

A reserve soldier has been sentenced to 14 days detention after announcing that he was unwilling to take part in the war in Lebanon. The soldier, First Sergeant (Res.) Itamar Shapira told Ynet "that the war in the north has no purpose" and that "Israel is rejecting every ceasefire attempt." (Hanan Greenberg)

1. Congratulations to Itamar Shapira......
now if all soldiers around the world would have his courage we might have a peaceful world.

4. Good on him. Question...................
14 days is very mild, no? I think our US objectors spend much longer than that in detention? I like that the detention time is not excessive.

5. An Israeli once told me that prisons in Israel are not as pretty and cozy
as the ones in the USA.

7. I think it depends
after all there are some terribly brutal prisons in the U.S. and then there's Danbury. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a range in Israel as well.

9. Thank-you for this link. I think it's important that we see this side of
the conflict.
