SCALIA: DELAY STAYS ON BALLOT!!!
SCALIA: DELAY STAYS ON BALLOT
By Paul Kiel - August 7, 2006, 5:01 PM
Bad news for Tom DeLay.

Lawyer for the Texas Republicans James Bopp has just issued a notice that Justice Antonin Scalia has denied their stay request.

That means that Tom DeLay WILL be forced to run again -- or watch the Democrat opponent run without a GOP opponent.

12. He had no choice in 2000
but that didn't stop him - however he might be saving himself for something bigger and better - now watch the dumb idiots in the district actually re-elect Tom can't wait until you go to prison DeLay

Even the Holy Quartet utterly disregarded their own "liberal" positions in 2000.

29. No shit. That's why they went screaming to his fugly ass first .
He was their only chance. But, if he had done it it would have said volumes about all his fucked up rulings. It would have showed that he was a neo-con activist judge.

30. Actually, they couldn't have gone to anyone else
Nino has jurisdiction over the 5th Circuit. They had to go to him. Which probably hurt them. Long Dong Thomas may have been more receptive than Scarface.

32. There was a right to counsel opinion last term
that Scarface wrote the majority opinion on, and Herr Roberts wrote a dissent in which he tried to teach Fat Tony a thing or two about "original intent." You could practically see Long Dong's head spinning as he tried to figure out who's leg to hump.

43. Way too many times I read how much Scalia wanted to be CJ!
I actually think that was one of the reasons he was so buddy buddy with Cheney, and of course helped put the idiots in the WH. I have no idea why Shrub & Cheney didn't make him CJ. It suprises me, if they really wanted someone to always vote their way, they would have chosen him, but they again, maybe they wanted a young guy who would be able to be a thorn in our side for many years to come!

45. No, Bush constantly has favors to payback
I know that Roberts helped him in the Florida recount, he probably has gotten to his stack of
favors for Scalia yet. Hmmm, maybe he could give him the Medal of Freedom. That seems to
be one of his traditional thank yous.

11. Yeah. Let's Just Give Up And Not Try. That's How We're Gonna Take Back
congress. :eyes:

Orrrrrrrr maybe we can run one heck of a race with the political tide in our favor and just maybe, with enough hard work and refining of our message, could take the seat and contribute towards regaining control of congress.

Me? I prefer not offering weak unsubstantiated predictions while in the heat of the fight. But that's just me.

to run a great candidate like Nick Lampson. A sacrificial lamb or someone that's just too liberal for that district might still lose, but Lampson will take Tom behind the woodshed, I just about guarantee it.

Either way, this is awesome news and a bit surprising.

22. My prediction is that it's over
I'm calling it 6-3 against granting cert. If Scarface thought there was an argument to be made, he'd have stayed the injunction. Now that El Nino is on the record, there's no way his lapdog Clarence Long Dong Silver Thomas jumps ship.

50. I don't like that the washpost said this: But Democrats, eager to keep the
politically tainted DeLay on the ballot, argued that he won the Republican primary this spring and cannot now decide on a successor without violating state election law and the U.S. Constitution. How about mentioning what really happened; Republicans, eager to break the law, argued that Delay was not elligible to run becuase he moved from the state, and that he did not remove himself from the ballot willingly, in which case the party can not legally run another candidate after the primaries.

lots of it, to try to keep the seat, or just forfeit the seat (monetarily anyway). This should be interesting to watch. The more money they have to hand Delay, the less they can hand other candidates.
