Anyone have link to that Breaking News Proposal by Lebanon?
Blitzer says that Lebanon has offered to the UN to put it's own troops on the border (if Israel withdraws from Lebanon land) and that Lebanon would patrol the area for it's own country and might accept UN Peace keepers in Support.

HEZBOLLAH SIGNED ON TO THIS. Lebanon Govt's postion is that allowing it's OWN troops to REPLACE Hezbollah on the border would allow the Gov't to comply with UN Res: 1559 by making Hezbollah NOT in CONTROL...Lebanon said that then the disarming of Hez. to it's own Troops would allow the country to comply and yet still have control over it's territory!

Elliot Cohen said...on Blitzer (CNN) that the only way anyone would accept that is by Iran and Syria accepting SANCTIONS for not SUPPLYING any more ARMS to Hezbollah.

The proposal sounded interesting and a great diplomatic COMPROMISE that would allow Lebanon to take back control of it's country and Hezbollah was onboard to support the Lebanese Troops if Israel would stop the Bombing and Remove it's troops!

This is the ONLY LINK I could find and it doesn't say what Blitzer announced on CNN around 4:00p.m. est here. This article from WaPo says Lebanon wants UN Peacekeepers and that's NOT WHAT BREAKING NEWS SAID?

Hezbollah Joins New Call for Cease-Fire
Plan Endorsed By Lebanon Differs From U.S. Approach

By Edward Cody and Jonathan Finer
Washington Post Foreign Service
Saturday, July 29, 2006; A08

BEIRUT, July 28 -- As fighting raged on in southern Lebanon, Hezbollah joined the Lebanese government in a peace proposal calling for an immediate cease-fire with Israel followed swiftly by a prisoner exchange and reinforcement of U.N. troops along the embattled border, senior Lebanese officials said Friday.

The agreement for the first time put Hezbollah and the rest of the Lebanese government in a unified position on how to end the 17-day-old conflict. But its terms varied widely from ideas put forth by Israel and the United States, particularly its insistence on an immediate cease-fire.

1. No One has heard about this? It was last minute BREAKING NEWS!
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 05:41 PM by KoKo01
Blitzer had it on both his hours...yet I can't find it and no one here seems to know about it.

It seemed a fair diplomatic proposal with "details to be worked out" ...and I though those of us who want PEACE would have heard about it an posted IMMEDIATELY?

What's going on?

3. Thanks...but why is there so little interest in this....It seemed a good
diplomatic move by Lebanon to comply with "UN RES 1559" and I would have thought to see this on DU Latest Breaking and discussions here about it?

The DU link you gave had few replies....I'll check out the other link and I'm still "GOOGLING" with combinations to find a report about this. If Blitzer's CNN had it out there on TWO SEGMENTS...why can't I find more about it.

I guess it's "dead in the water." MSM want's to go with the Bush/Condi/NeoCon proposal to the UN....

Might as well give up...no interest...

5. I heard about this on Wolf's segment as well
And my immediate reaction was the same as yours: it's an equitable compromise that won't get the time of day from the US/Israel because anything less than what they're demanding is a non-starter.

Sick, sad.

I haven't looked for links.

7. Here's a link from the BBC
Diplomats wrangle over UN draft

Diplomats at the United Nations are discussing possible changes to a draft resolution aimed at ending the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.

An Arab League delegation is travelling to New York to push Lebanon's demands for the text to call for an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Lebanon has pledged 15,000 troops for the border area when Israel pulls out.

It's also up on CNN now: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/08/07/mideast.main/index.html The report is dated 10:28 pm, Monday.
