What are your views on the Issues?
There are several websites that show the views of politicians.

I think it would be interesting to see what DU thinks about the issues on everything from Abortion to State's Rights.

Here are important issues to me.

Abortion - "Safe, Legal, and Rare" is my take on Abortion. I support the idea that Abortions can and should be decreased through an increase in Social Programs. I also totally support the use of Contraceptives and Education to help reduce unwanted pregnancies, but I do support a woman's right to choose.

Death Penalty - I am usually in opposition to the Death Penalty. I also believe there to be a racial component in it, that is one reason why I oppose it. I do however support the Death Penalty under SOME circumstances, I think people who committ 'ghoulish' acts should be executed, there is a scenario I play out in my mind which has caused me to support this. Let's say there is an Ecological Disaster or something, a prison is hit, and 1 guy manages to escape. We all know there are some certain people who shouldn't be allowed to escape. These 'ghouls' include child murderers, people who dismember and/or decapitate their victim(s), cannibals, etc.

Evolution - I am religious, but I do not see a contradiction between that and my belief in Evolution. I am totally opposed to the teaching of Intelligent Design in Public Schools.

GLBT Rights - I strongly support the GLBT community. I have actively opposed the Marriage Amendments (Both Federal and in my State). I also support Hate Crimes Legislation to stop cruel Homophobes.

Health Care - If we can finance a war that costs half a trillion dollars, we can provide excellent health care for every man, woman, and child in this country.

Religion - I am a Religious person. But, I also support the separation of Church and State. I have no problem at all with people worshipping at home. But, I see the Church as a player in a list of entities that is in conflict with the State, IF it has not taken it over. I am also VERY wary of Megachurches, Organized Religion, and the 'christian' Right.

Science - America is slipping behind when it comes to Science. We need to do catch up. We need to stop adhering to the Anti-Scientific beliefs of the 'christian' Right and explore, research, and create experiments. We are on the verge of Medical Breakthroughs that can save lives, let's stop wasting time.

1. My issues
The Constitution-we must have valid checks and balances with three viable branches of government.

Choice-I read in the paper today about a young teen who had a baby and went back to school. This was her choice, and I support that and hope that the folks in this town support her in that choice by giving her help with food and daycare for the kid so that she can go back to high school and get her diploma. That being said, if she had chosen to terminate the pregnancy, I would have supported her in that choice, asking others not to shun her or discriminate against her.

Death Penalty-to paraphrase a hadith (saying of the Prophet): You should not yearn for death-for each moment of a good person's life gives that person a chance to continue to do good deeds, and each moment given to an evil person's life is another chance to repent and change that person's life.

Government Promises Should Be Kept-If someone chooses to join the military, they expect to be treated in a certain way, such as being given the proper equipment, to be looked after if they are injured, etc. Retirees who have spent a lifetime paying into FICA expect to be given their Social Security when they reach retirement age.

Equal rights for all people-equal rights for GLBT folks, women, minorities, including partenership/civil union benefits for established couples, equal opportunities, and religious freedom for Native American peoples.

Religious Freedom-or freedom from religion must be reinforced. There should be strict seperation between church and state.

Education and Knowledge-Intelligent people should be encouraged to get a higher education based on knowledge and facts.

3. I didn't want to go on for too long
I originally wanted to do something regarding Race Relations / Affirmative Action. I also did include Stem Cell Research, I didn't name it though, I'm referring to it under Science. And, I used 'GLBT Rights' to talk about "Gay Rights"
