DKOS: Don't Do It, Senator Clinton. Please.
This is exactly how I feel aboout apotential Hillary run, and about the woman herself.

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/1/19/102915/377

<snip>

Senator Clinton, with a heavy heart, I plead with you to forego a presidential run in 2008.

Who am I to make such an audacious request? I am nobody and I am somebody. I am a deeply concerned American citizen, that's who I am.

Although I am outraged that we were lied into Iraq, I am not someone who deplores what I believe to be your honorable position on the war.

I make this plea because we face an enemy here at home. The enemy, our Republican adversaries, will use every opportunity to destroy you and all the good work you have done.

The campaign cannot be about you. It must be about our future. It must be about how we will rebuild our country and our position in the world after eight long and terrible years.

2. No one's saying it's not her right to run.
Last I checked, this is still America, and we still have the right to express our opinion and ask her not to run. Funny how people bring up rights when A) rights have nothing to do with the stated opinion and B) the person bringing up the issue of rights doesn't like that someone else used theirs.

4. I find especially funny
the notion that only Hillary is going to get attacked as Democratic nominee. What planet do these people live on?

from their own troubles. You think it's an accident that the MSM are talking about it NOW, when the Dems are starting to fight back and looking good doing it? Calm down, everyone.

7. Hilary will come into the race
with baggage. A whole segment of the population who hates her. Just like John Kerry did. You can't win an election with that level of baggage, in my opinion.

11. To be fair ANY Democrat will have as much baggage
as the right is willing to dredge up/make up.

13. Well, I can't really think of any Dem who will come IN
with ready made baggage. I'm sure plenty will be added to it, but they are starting way behind square one.

6. I have to chuckle at the notion
that the republicans will attempt to destroy her. I'm sure they will and they will soon discover they are not dealing with a John Kerry (whom I have a great deal of respect for.) Go ahead, republican candidate for president, fuck with Hillary. Go ahead, republican leader of the senate, launch your assaults on Hillary. I suggest you then take cover. If Hillary runs for president and if the republicans make the campaign about her, they will lose. She will pummel them. Regardless of her politics, regardless whether you agree or support her; she will go toe to toe with any gop candidate and she will win the battle of the trenches.

Caveat: I am a Clark supporter but I will vote for and provide funding for whomever the democrats nominate.

8. Ironically the poster goes on to support Gore for 2008
I say ironically because Gore is every bit a part of the past as Senator Clinton...and the poster's appeal is for a candidate who makes the campaign 'about the future.'

Not saying I don't like Gore, just that said poster's logic is totally flawed.

10. Agree totally
I don't dislike Clinton. I just don't particularly like her. I think she's like a symbol to some in the Democratic party. She's simply too iconic and too much a part of the Washington establishment. I don't hate her. I just don't want to have to vote for her by default.

She may be a better candidate then some, but that doesn't make her the best. Let's please stop trying to recycle Democratic "name" politicans and give someone else a chance. I'll support Hillary if she gets the nomination, but we should at least have primaries before we name her the nominee.

14. This is ridiculous
Of course she can run. She has money, interested supporters and money. The rest is just silliness. It's too early to declare that any one candidacy will 'ruin the Democratic Party.' Honestly, can't the imminent death of the Democratic Party due to one person running for Prez wait until after the mid-terms? (Geez.)

19. You know at this point I do not care who is going to run
in 2008. We have so many issues to work on before 2008. I feel that Alito, corruption, voting problems are the key to start getting prepared for 2006 & 2008. Let us try and deal with some of these issues before squabbling about 2008 and Hillary. Just sayin. Peace

20. Ridiculuous...and wrong...
Hillary will make an outstanding candidate....

She has been through the Republican smear machine and defeated it every time. She is far more popular than people want to believe. Take my word for it, the Republicans are scared out of their wits at a Hillary candidacy.

Do people really think the Republicans won't smear whoever we nominate...puhlease. The Republicans are ruthless and will never try and talk about issues. Hillary has been through this time and time again, and knows how to combat it.

24. Hillary only heeds her ambitions. Doing what's right is beyond her.
As evidenced for her continued support for the war and the occupation.
