Imagine if the reverse were true. Imagine if Democrats had been running the country for the last six years and had done so badly that we at DU were pinning all our hopes on Dick Cheney this year.

The polls are clear. Americans are fed up with the current leadership. Expect the media to be very confused, with insipid smiles on their faces for a few days. Dammit, all the focus groups told us we could sell endless war with the right graphics and bumper music. What the hell happened?

Watching elections as I have been doing for the last 30+ years, I've seen two truths hold true:

Americans want checks and balances and bi-partisan efforts to improve their nation.

American voters will generally try to do the right thing.

36. We have to remember that CT was using LEVER voting machines.

Until we make sure the entire country is using reliable voting machines, we don't have much to look forward to.

This victory was/is SWEET. Unfortunately, Cynthia McKinney's name WASN'T EVEN ON THE BALLOT in some parts of Georgia's Diebold election turf.

We need to get each and every state, one state at a time, to understand that WE, THE PEOPLE are serious about EVERY election, and we're serious that each vote should be counted AND accounted for....with a paper trail.

When votes are COUNTED, and elections are true, Dems will win hands down. Until that happens, republicans are still in charge of the elections, and we'll continue to have nutballs in office who are destroying our country and the world.
