5. He dosen't need Balls, all he needs are the rules..
"Smoked" Joe renounced the Democratic Party tonight.

He's not a Democrat any more (as if he was one to begin with).

He should not be holding Democratic seats on ANY Committee.

Period.

nothing 'balls' about that.

7. Good point...but Joe is running as an "Independent Democrat"
Whatever the hell that is.

Hmmmm....guess that's another name for Republican, but is Reid smart enough to see through the smoke screen?????

10. He is still a Democratic senator until Jan.
And I want my state to retain its senators in the committees.

17. And you saw this where?
Because I didn't see him renounce his party in his speech. Until Jan, he is still our senator.

20. I understand your frustration
But you have to understand, it isn't the party that is letting Joe down, it's Joe letting the party down.
The thing is, if Joe thought he would stand a better chance at a Republican nomination, he'd be a Republican.
He has no loyalty.
So say Joe decided to follow his political heart and switched to Republican--would you expect him to retain Democratic committee positions?
If he wants to be an independent, that is his decision and HE is letting his state down by doing so--not the other way around.
HE is the one that is punishing the citizens of CT.
It's time for a good dose of personal responsibility for Joe's actions.
Any repercussions to CT belong to Joe and Joe alone.

22. I can see your point
If joe straight up switched, I would fully understand him loosing the seats. But as of now, he actually hasn't left the party. And until he does, I would like to see him on a committee seat, since he still can get Connecticut's concerns addressed.

2. I don't think he will and I wouldn't either
At this point there's too much risk of alienating people from CT.
Stripping Joe of his chairmanships and committee seats may play well at DU, but I don't think it will play well among the general public.
At this point it's unnecessary.

4. He wouldn't lose seats
until Jan of next year anyway. Besides, as long as he votes for Reid for maj leader, he will keep his seats.

6. Why should he lose his seats?
He is still the elected Democrat representing CT till Jan.

8. He's no longer a Democrat, he declared himself AGAINST...
.. the Democratic candidate. He has effectively left the party and is deserving NO Democratic Party support/benefits.

12. Bullshit
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 12:58 AM by VTMechEngr
He did not renounce the party. He said he would run as an independent since he lost the primary. That does not effect his current status as one of our Senators. I'm so fucking over you people thinking you know whats best for Connecticut. We would be hurt by having him lose the seats in question.

13. He shouldn't lose his seats
Calls for him to lose the assignments prove partisanship outweighs the real duty of an elected official to some people.

14. As soon as Loserman files against Lamont he's no Democrat.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 01:04 AM by longship
That would mean that Reid should act tomorrow immediately after Sore Loserman files.

However, Congress is not in session, so he might not act until Congress reconvenes. This would give Reid some time to apply pressure to Sore Loserman to withdraw.

Remember, Reid is a former Golden Gloves boxer. He knows the rope-a-dope.
