Let me make sure I understand where the primaries are so far
We have a 3-term Democratic incumbent who had the entire power structure of both his party and the opposing party campaign for him, and he lost by 4 points, at which point he flips out and says he's going to run as an independent.

We have a Texas representative who won the primary in the spring, then resigned and wants off the ballot.

We have a Georgia representative lose for the second time in 4 years after assaulting a disrespectful police officer, sing a Pink song.

We have a Michigan GOP candidate, backed by both * and McCain, lose to a paleocon.

Interesting times. Did I miss anything important?

2. I think people are starting to 'pay attention' on all sides.
The next 2 years should be really interesting, barring the BFEE letting another 911 happen. I can see them doing it at the end of their 'reign'.

3. You forgot Bob Nye (Ohio)
We have an Ohio Representative who, enmeshed in scandal, wants to remove himself from the race and "anoint" a successor. The problem? His proposed successor was Jim Petro's running mate in his failed Gubernatorial bid this spring.

The irony? In 2005, the Republican-controlled Ohio legislature passed a law that prevents a candidate from running for two offices in the same year. This was meant to hurt Ted Strickland, who was (at the time the law was passed) deciding whether to run for his old seat in the Ohio Legislature or run for Governor.

Strickland wasn't the victim of the law (he's doing fine in his bid for Governor)...Nye's (Republican) replacement is.

(yeah, I know that doesn't fit well into your one-sentence-summary format, but it's still an oddity)
