12 Year Old GROSSESS ME OUT! Fast-Food Ice Dirtier Than Toilet Water

More power to this 12 year old girl, she has offically put me on a diet. Great job!

Feb. 20, 2006 — Jasmine Roberts never expected her award-winning middle school science project to get so much attention. But the project produced some disturbing results: 70 percent of the time, ice from fast food restaurants was dirtier than toilet water.

The 12-year-old collected ice samples from five restaurants in South Florida — from both self-serve machines inside the restaurant and from drive-thru windows. She then collected toilet water samples from the same restaurants and tested all of them for bacteria at the University of South Florida.

In several cases, the ice tested positive for E. coli bacteria, which comes from human waste and has been linked to several illness outbreaks across the country.

1. If you have ever worked in a fast food restaurant
you know that those ice machines NEVER get cleaned out. If they have rats or roaches (and they do) then there WILL be feces in that machine.

4. My tip to people is:
Don't drink ice-tea in fast food or ANY restaurant. The dispensers never get cleaned.

2. Good for her
Maybe the health dept. in florida should hire her, given that she actually accomplishes something, how novel.

15. That actually looks really good
Even with the toilet shaped bowl holder, which I assume is actually some sort of charcoal warmer.

18. That's not very surprising, the bins are almost never cleaned.
If there aren't chunks of crap visible floating in it causing someone to complain, ice is just added to the bins again and again. However, after this story, I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes a regular duty assigned to employees from now on.

19. SLIME IN THE ICE MACHINE!!!!!
She could become this city's Marvin Zinder, investigative reporter. He has a daily "Rat and Roach Report" on the ABC local news in Houston. He's also the reporter that raided the chicken ranch (Best Little Whote House in Texas)in LaGrange, Texas.

20. I always rinse my ice off before I use it in a drink.
I don't like that frosty look and clear ice makes for a cleaner drink. Or so I thought.
