Unbelievable. Gibson's fellow partiers are defending his drunk driving
and speculating what "incited' him to make the anti-semetic remarks! So it isn't Mel's fault. He wasn't drunk and he was "made" to say the nasty remarks, implication being the Jewish cop must have insulted him. This was a Rita MSNBC interview, an "exclusive" no less. Oh and the blonde bimbos say Mel might have looked like he was flirting but the photographs are misleading. He talked all about his wife and what a "saint' she was with their seven children" Right. Why was he out alone then? And don't all married men hang all over young bimbettes in pix? And remember, according to them, he wasn't drunk!

2. it's mels fault
regardless of what the media says.

he is responsible for the words that came out of his mouth

that's as true of him, as it was of al sharpton, jesse jackson, hillary clinton, lynn redgrave, etc. etc. etc.

i respect him for apologizing. but it does not mean what he said was not an insight into the fact that the guy has "more issues than the NYT" to borrow a phrase

4. What is there to respect? Mel is only trying to save his ass.
He didn't mean one word of his so called apology. It took three tries. He doesn't mean he is sorry anymore than he was really sorry when he was forced to apologize for his disgusting remarks about gays. Get real. There is absolutely no reason based on past performance to give Mel the benefit of the doubt regarding his sincerity on any of these apologies.

6. i am not a mind reader
i respect mel for apologizing. same thing i would do for anybody else in his situation

i assume that apologies are sincere, absent evidence to the contrary.

i was among the 1st to criticize him, and among the 1st to praise him for apologizing. it doesn't make up for what he said, but it is a respectable thing to do, and i respect that

i don't know how you know what he means or doesn't mean. can u look into his mind/heart and know this? i doubt it

8. Past behavior provides plenty of evidence to the contrary!
BTW, why do you think the girls are out talking about Mel having been "incited to say these things?"You can't know anything about Hollywood PR if you think they did this on their own without it being suggested by Mel and with his consent. I have worked in Hollywood and with PR. This is how this works. Does someone who does that sound apologetic to you?

11. i am not talking about "the girls"
mel said a despicable thing

i called him on that

mel apologized. i praised him for that.

that shouldn't be hard to understand. i respect people who apologize for bad acts. that is not to say they are not culpable for bad acts. but apologies are a good thing

i am not going to assume he is insincere. sorry. he, like ANYBODY gets the benefit of the doubt as to the sincerity of an apology

13. So I guess you accept his apology about his anti gay remarks too?
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 10:59 AM by saracat
He made more of those remarks after that apology! And he never even apologized about his remarks about Michael J. Fox even when asked to. And my point was I find it beyond comprehension that you would give someone like Mel the benefit of the doubt when his lack of sincerity is obvious. You may not be talking about the girls but I was. I suppose you give them the benefit of the doubt as well? Sheesh.Whatever. You seem like a very sweet person. I guess I just know too much about how this works.

3. These girls are all Paris Hilton wannabes
What better way to get to the top of the fake celebrity list than to support the local super-celebrity drunk?

5. The typical dumb Republican Blonde. Brittney Spears
wannabe's. Mel probably promised them walk ons in his next film.Amazing how they seem to know a guy they only met one drunken night in a bar.And isn't it a little obvious they are way too young for Mel? But that is his maturity level I guess.

10. I fucking loathe drunk drivers
I think that aspect of the evening - his driving recklessly drunk - was worse than any of the crap that came out of his mouth.
