Question about double posting...
I see that some people post in one forum and then copy/paste the same message in other forums. Is this acceptable. Thanks.

1. I have never heard of any rule prohibiting such posting
Doesn't mean there isn't one. I just never head of it.

2. You can't spam the boards with the same post over and over
but it is okay to cross post things occasionally.

3. It all depends.
There's no "rule" per se. But a LBN story may get more attention in GD, so cross-posting is good for that sort of thing. I have more of a pet peeve with multiple postings on the same story. It's hard enough to find what you want without having to dig through multiple threads on the same topic. That's why a good DUer checks to make sure it hasn't been posted before.

4. You might try posting your question on a couple of other boards

5. Cross-posting is sometimes acceptable as you've described.

From the DU rules:

"Cross posting of duplicates in the two General Discussion forums is not permitted. Cross-posting of duplicates in other forums is occasionally permitted if there is a clear reason for doing so.

Do not spam the message board by posting the same message repeatedly, or by posting a flood of different messages."

7. I will often post a breaking story in LBN, and then again in GD
As it often provokes more discussion in GD. Thanks for clearing that up! :hi:
