Is it possible that * sincerely believes the law and the constitution does not apply to him simply because none of the other rules other people had to follow have ever applied to him? i.e. needing to report for national guard duty, needed to follow SEC regulations on insider stock sales, needing to obey the laws against drinking and driving (and it rumored drug use)and so on.

With a personal history like that who wouldn't feel the Constitution and the laws derived under it can be ignored at a whim. He's always gotten away with it before.
