"Buckle up or saddle up for one year."
Are there any active duty or reservist DUers working on a military base who could explain this to me?

I'm a civilian working on an Air Force base right now and they just changed their sign along the main road to say:

"Buckle up or saddle up for one year."

This seems to be an implication that any reservists or active duty types that get caught driving on base without a seatbelt will be punished by being sent on tour to Iraq.

I've been searching the net without success. Anyone know something about this?

1. I read that as no driving for a year on base.
'Saddle up' as in horses?

2. That's the way I read it. You get caught without a seatbelt,
you walk, ride a horse, or hitchhike, 'cause you ain't driving in there any more.

3. Or maybe you'll get a year of active duty in Iraq?

"Saddle up" --put on your gear and helmet.
(Is that you, John Wayne?)

4. Yes that's what it seems to me. "Saddle up" is a common phrase
to get ready to go somewhere, usually into battle.

5. So Iraq/Afghanistan duty is punishment? Finally, they admit it.
