Please contact Senator Harry Reid
Please call, FAX, or write Senator Reid and ask him to use his power as Senate party leader to apply pressure to Joe to honor the will of the CT voters. In running against the duly elected Democratic Party nominee Lieberman has, in effect, left the fold of the Democratic Party. Senator Lieberman should be told that if he continues on his current path, his committee assignments would be in jeopardy.

Be polite, both to Reid and to Lieberman. Remember, the Senate is a body of comity. Honor that legacy even if Lieberman seems intent on tarnishing it and even though you are angry at him. A little sugar coating wouldn't hurt, but even a little vitriol will. Be nice, people.

Thanks.

4. Harry hasn't said a word on Lieberman's committee assignments
That why we have to tell Reid that he should leverage those assignments in his attempts to get Joe to back down.

Reid should hear this:
If Lieberman is running against Lamont, who has already defeated him, he has in effect left the Democratic Party and will lose his committee assignments.

5. I'm not so sure that's a good idea.
If Joe DOES win the General Election and we're faced with a tie for control of the Senate, we need to make sure Joe's not going to fully turn against here. Let's not get too carried away here.

7. Joe can't win the general election if he withdraws.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 02:10 PM by longship
Lieberman lost the primary and must honor the will of the voters. He must concede defeat and withdraw from the race. There are no other alternatives for him.

Reid and other party leaders must make that very, very clear to him. That's why his committee assignments must be forfeited.

Joe must understand that he will be all alone if he chooses this path. He will be a pariah in the Democratic Party.

3. Yes, be polite but be firm. If he is no longer a Democrat, he should
not be allowed to continue in his committee positions. Especially Homeland Security where he helped Susan Collins cover-up the whole Katrina debacle and the wholesale stealing that is going on under the cover of securing der faderland!

Reid, Schumer applaud Lamont victory

RAW STORY
Published: Wednesday August 9, 2006

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) today joined with colleague Chuch Schumer (D-NY)
in applauding the victory of challenger Ned Lamont over incumbent Democrat Joe Lieberman (D-CT),
RAW STORY has learned.

In a joint statement today, the two Senators claimed that Lieberman's defeat
was a positive sign of Democratic prospects in November.

The statement, in its entirety, follows:

#
"The Democratic voters of Connecticut have spoken and chosen Ned Lamont as their nominee.
Both we and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) fully support Mr. Lamont's candidacy. Congratulations to Ned on his victory and on a race well run.

"Joe Lieberman has been an effective Democratic Senator for Connecticut and for America.
But the perception was that he was too close to George Bush and this election was,
in many respects, a referendum on the President more than anything else.
The results bode well for Democratic victories in November and our efforts
to take the country in a new direction."

Taking him off the committee's is the right thing to do!

He isn't a democrat anymore!
