"The Führer forged the Greater German Reich through peaceful labor"
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 01:22 PM by izzybeans
"He did not want war. He wanted peace. But our enemies wanted war!"

I've been reading through old Nazi war propaganda to try to come to terms with what the world faces today. It is absolutely disturbing how similar the rhetoric is in a variety of global conflicts.

That quote comes from a pamphlet distributed to the German population. It claimed its enemies wanted to wipe them off the map and that if they lost their war all of them would die anyway.

The most striking quote comes here. It comes in a passage that states they will be occupied until the year 2000 if they lose:

"If our enemies have their way, no German man in the future will be able to bear any sort of weapon, a right that is given even to the most primitive peoples, for it is a natural right to defend oneself, and to be able to defend oneself."

There are others in this archive worthy of a read but there are two that standout right away. The one linked above and this one called "How they Lie!"; which is a pamphlet used to ensure that Germans did not interpret the claims of war atrocities and genocide as valid. This too sounds like familiar Imperial propaganda floating around several prominent global conflicts even on this day.

1. "We are fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here"

"We fight only to spread democracy--to rid the world of tyrants, and weapons of mass destruction."

"They hate us for our freedoms (and we love the oil more than they do, so it should've been ours anyway)"

"It’s an interesting period because, instead of having foreign policies based upon trying to create a sense of stability, we have a foreign policy that addresses the root causes of violence and instability."

3. An Old Familiar Song
--Familiar songs have familiar refrains. There are only so many things that authoritarian-minded fascists can say in order to underpin their own rhetoric and agenda,.... and the Bush administration has touched all the bases.

If you think I'm calling someone Hitler I'm sorry you misunderstand.

It's an excercise in persuasion and rhetoric.

16. that is true
and comparisons aren't done to create equivalents anyway. They are done to create meaning...hence the rhetorical comparisons; which need to be undertaken more seriously so that we can understand how to move past them.

The rhetoric is nearly equivalent and I'm not quite sure what that means at the moment.

6. Indeed he has, I miss him dearly.
I assume the mere mention of BenBurch's name is not banned? I really believe an amnesty is merited and all of out old friends should be allowed to assume their old screen names (I suspect that many roam these boards still) once again.

I hope I was misinformed, but I have not seen him for a a considerable time. I think he & Distressed American both were gone the same evening. I was not present so I hope this is not factual.

5. Interesting how Hitler only wanted German men to be armed...
...meanwhile, back in America, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

9. At one time people had a somewhat narrower definition here as well.
At least as far as how much of one some were and what gender of one could vote, just minor little niggling issues like that.

13. True enough - we'll eventually get it right
When you vote, I don't care who you are, whom you love, what color your skin is, which deity or deities you pray to (if any), how much money you have, what gender you are, what kind of gun you own, etc. All that matters is that you're an American who is willing to do your civic duty to preserve your liberty.

18. Sometimes I think it would be a good idea to require folks to vote.
Then I talk to people who are so woefully uninformed that it is appalling. It is one reason I enjoy using public transportation. Stirring the pot as it were. I think we can do a lot with a real committed GOTV in precincts which have traditionally had a low rate of voter participation this time around. We just have to get out there and keep it bubbling the next three months, people DO know when they are being screwed! Generally they are willing to do something about it as well.

If we can get these precincts up 10% apiece I would consider it a major win. Especially as that would represent a tripling and in some cases, a quadrupling of the turnout.

12. the GCA of 1968 was written to prevent groups like the Black
Panthers from getting arms. the text of it was lifted almost word for word from nazi legislation of 1938.

8. Hitler wasn't entirely wrong in saying that about Germany's enemies...
France wanted to make sure that Germany never had a functioning economy again, against the protest of other WW1 victors including the U.S.

Naturally, it's the only thing the fuck got right.

thanks for the info. I did not know that.

20. Hitler's version of the Bible was just found
Dug out from some archive in Germany:

"Hitler admired the ceremony and majesty of the church – he admitted as much in Mein Kampf – but hated its teachings which had no place in his vision of Germanic supermen ruling lesser races devoid of 'outdated' concepts such as mercy and love.

But he knew the power of the church in Germany and even he could not banish it overnight. He was even forced to abandon the systematic murder of the handicapped and insane before the war when outspoken bishops began to speak against it.

Instead his plan was to gradually 'Nazify' the church beginning with a theological centre he set up in 1939 to rewrite the Holy Bible. He appointed lackey professors to work on a thoroughly Nazi version that would remove all references to Jews and all compassion.

Their brief: 'The cleanse church texts of all non-Ayran influences.' The first to go were the 10 Commandments. The Nazi 12 run:
Honour God and believe in him wholeheartedly.
Seek out the peace of God.
Avoid all hypocrisy.
Holy is your health and life!
Holy is your wellbeing and honour!
Holy is your truth and fidelity!
Honour your father and mother – your children are your aid and your example.
Keep the blood pure and your honour holy!
Maintain and multiply the heritage of your forefathers.
Always be ready to help and to forgive.
Honour your Fuehrer and master!
Joyously serve the people with work and sacrifice.
Never, ever, fart while doing a speech."

OK, I couldn't resist it, but the rest are claimed to be genuine ;-)
