I don't know how people can get in on this if they didn't get the email from MoveOn asking them to do it - but if you did get the email or if you know someone in MoveOn who might have gotten it, please take action! I will be rushing out of my last class tomorrow and racing north to deliver petitions to both of my Senators' offices. I have to do something! :kick:
Excellent, recent information can be found below the letter -- good for anyone who is thinking about calling/faxing etcetera...
==============================The MoveOn Letter============
Dear MoveOn member,
As the Senate vote on Alito approaches, it's still unclear whether the Democrats and moderate Republicans who oppose Alito will mount a filibuster to block the nomination. Senators are listening very closely right now as they gauge public opinion and make their plans. So today, we're unveiling a powerful new way to show our senators how passionate about this their constituents really are.
It's called a Personal Petition Delivery. We've collected over half a million signatures and comments, and almost 100,000 personal letters opposing Alito's nomination. Now you can go online and print out a unique selection of the signatures and letters from your state and deliver them personally to your senator's office.
If thousands of us show up one at a time, each representing dozens of others, it will make a huge impression during this critical week. You can get your unique selection of petition signatures and letters—and even find the shortest route to the nearest senate office—right now... (a special link was included in my email that was just for my state...)
A personal petition delivery is easy to do. Here are some tips to make sure it's a success:
Consider writing your own letter to deliver along with the other materials. It can just be a paragraph or two expressing why you personally feel that Alito is the wrong choice to safeguard our rights.When you arrive at your senator's office, just explain to the receptionist that you are a constituent and a volunteer with MoveOn. Tell them you would like to give the senator your letter and pass on the signatures, comments, and letters of other constituents, all strongly urging him or her to oppose Alito and do what it takes to keep him off the Supreme Court. Then just hand off the materials—and you're done!

Opposition to Alito is growing quickly. Here's how some leading newspapers around the nation are explaining the reasons why Alito is the wrong choice for the Supreme Court:
Unchecked Presidential power to torture or spy at will: Long before al-Qaida, there was Alito, then an assistant to the U.S. solicitor general, writing a 1984 memo proclaiming that government officials should be able to order domestic wiretaps without fear of legal retaliation by their subjects. Almost every worry about the Bush administration goes back to its arrogant, sweeping view of executive powers. There again, one finds Alito. –Seattle Post Intelligencer1
The end of reproductive freedom: If Judge Alito gets to the court, there is every reason to believe that he will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade when the opportunity comes. –New York Times2
A threat to individual rights: Alito reads the Constitution and finds more power for the government and fewer rights for individuals. This apparent indifference to individual rights is disturbing. It runs counter to American history, which proves that human rights are won through political and legal struggle. –Grand Forks Herald3
A record of deception: Alito has deceived Congress and the nation to hide his extreme views: ...evasiveness, however pragmatic it might be, becomes troubling when it segues into disingenuousness. His fuzzy memory about his membership in the Concerned Alumni of Princeton, a group notoriously hostile to minority and women's rights, was simply not credible. –St. Louis Post-Dispatch4
Decisions will be made this week that will impact our lives for decades to come. However this nomination ends, this is a time for our voice to be heard.
Thanks for all that you do,
