If Lieberman runs as an independent, would he suck more Republican votes
away from the GOP candidate than Democratic votes away from Lamont?

1. No, because the Republican doesn't have that much support.
It's so tiny that Lieb would have to take 90% of it to have anywhere near a shot at taking more votes from him than Lamont.

4. There just arent that many
Republican votes in CT, and those that are are more like Lieberman than Bible Belt conservatives. Those who aren't Democrats are far more often Independents; CT actually elected an Independent governor not all that long ago. Lieberman stands a good chance to win since the repub candidate is pretty much a non-factor in the general election. The general election will give the same choice as the Democratic primary but with a wider audience much more favorable to Lieberman.

5. Maybe the latest Rasmussen poll will answer your question
Ned (D) 40%
Joe (I) 40%
Alan (R) 13%

Poll taken before Joe was rejected by record high primary turnout.

6. My Prediction.....
He will suck lots of votes from the repub candidate, and the repubs won't care, since they're more or less supporting him.

Does it surprise anyone that Lieberman is getting more respect from the right, than the right has EVER given to ANY Democratic party member?

They might do it in an unspoken manner, but the repub party will throw their support squarely behind Lieberman, as they now see him as their only hope of maintaining the conservative vote they now have from Connecticut.

With that repub support, and a percentage of Dems still willing to vote for him, Lieberman may have enough to carry November and leave Lamont and the progressives wondering what happened.

Then people will post here so surprised that the Democrat lost again. I could almost write the entire script for it now.

7. Can't see downside for Democrats
I believe Lieberman lost because he's a Republican in sheep's clothing. It's not necessarily that he's a bad politician, it's just that plain and simply he is not a Democrat and shouldn't be using Democratic party resources to conduct his campaign. I find it hard to believe any Democrats would vote for him but it's conceivable that the Republicans and independents would. In any case, if Lieberman wins, the Republican count is unchanged but he hasn't sucked money and resources from the Democratic party. If he loses, we're one up. Looks like win/win to me.

8. The Republican candidate is weak...
My only concern is that Republican voters and DLC lovers will vote for Lieberman, thus ensuring the continued support of Bush's ideals by a DINO...well, not really even that anymore. :(

14. Sort of good news!

Good news: They didn't poke around in my mouth because I can barely open it.

Bad News: It's Trismus, aka Lock Jaw, aka Tetanus...

I should have taken the shot when I punctured my foot.

But, I'm on steroids, painkillers, and antibiotics with a shot of Diflucan for good measure, so things are never better. :7

10. Last poll for a 3 way race was 40%/40%/13%. Dems will fall in line behind
the Democratic nominee as more national and state Dems declare unity behind the nominee, which means Lamont goes up and LIEberman goes down.

The Republicans will support their guy who doesn't "vote with Democrats 90% of the time".
