Middle East conflict and selective amnesia
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticleNew.asp?xfile=data/opinion/2006/August/opinion_August27.xml§ion=opinion&col=

THE guiding rule in this tsunami of drivel apparent in the mainstream network news media, is that the viewers should be denied the slightest access to any historical context, or indeed to anything that happened prior to June 28, which was when the capture of an Israeli soldier by Hamas hit the headlines, followed soon thereafter by the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah.

Memory is supposed to stop in its tracks at June 28, 2006.

Let’s go on a brief excursion into pre-history. I’m talking about June 20, 2006, when Israeli aircraft fired at least one missile at a car in an attempted extra-judicial assassination attempt on a road between Jabalya and Gaza City. The missile missed the car. Instead it killed three Palestinian children and wounded 15.

Back we go again to June 13, 2006. Israeli aircraft fired missiles at a van in another attempted extra-judicial assassination. The successive barrages killed nine innocent Palestinians.

Now we’re really in the dark ages, reaching far, far back to June 9, 2006, when Israel shelled a beach in Beit Lahiya killing 8 civilians and injuring 32. That’s just a brief trip down Memory Lane, and we trip over the bodies of 20 dead and 47 wounded, all of them Palestinians, most of them women and children.

6. Thanks for a short and sweet dash of perspective.
As for the MSM; "It was June 28 and God said let there be war and it was good."

8. Yes, well your path of history can be traced . .

.. back at least 2000 years. And according to that logic Israel is justified to attack any Arab regime anytime Israel wishes - just as Hizbollah or any other group of Arab militants is welcome to kill Israelis at will. Each side has thousands of wrongs that could justify retribution. So lets stop wringing our hands over the dead Lebanese civilians. You just justified all their deaths.

Now that you've justified open and free warfare that will kill hundreds of thousands of civilians - most of them Arab - over the next few months we can all get used to the new war-is-fun meme that you are promoting.

We won't have to settle for TV images from the ME either. Your logic says that Native Americans are fully justified in planting IED's along major interstates to start killing thousands of us white eyes to redress past hostilities and genocides.

Either any aggressive attack is bad and defense against aggression is necessary (as the Israeli attempts to neutralize terrorists both in S. lebanon and Gaza were) - or anything goes. Which is it going to be?

9. You forgot one major incident on June 24th
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 12:59 AM by Selatius
June 24th was the day IDF or Mossad invaded the Gaza Strip and kidnapped two people, a doctor and his brother. Israel claims they were Hamas. Nobody has heard from them since. The day after, Hamas abducts that Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit. Everybody knows about Shalit, but nobody bothers with the doctor and his son.

12. What the media isn't telling us....
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1803885&mesg_id=1803885

FYI, evidently Osama Muamar, 31, was a medical student, not a doctor, and he was kidnapped with his younger brother, Mustafa, a 20-year-old university student in Gaza. Hamas has denied that either were members. I had this pointed out to me in the above topic I've linked to, tho I'm not sure whether the LA Times can be considered credible.
