Clinton Urges Lieberman To 'Search His Conscience' In Senate Bid
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton Wednesday stopped short of calling for Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman to abandon his plan to run for re-election as an independent, following his upset primary defeat to newcomer Ned Lamont.

But she reiterated her pledge to back Lamont if he won the state's Democratic primary, and urged Lieberman to "search his conscience and decide what is best for Connecticut and for the Democratic party" before going forward with an independent bid.

"I understand his feeling, it's a difficult time for him and his family," Clinton said at a campaign event in Harlem. "But I said more than a month ago that I would support the winner of the Democratic primary and that's what I intend to do in every way that I'm requested."

The senator said she had called Lamont to offer her help and would soon be contributing money to his campaign.

1. Search for something he doesn't seem to have?
Seems like an oxymoron.

2. That was sold off a long long time ago
He should just search his campaign war chest and let that tell him the answer to his question

3. Wait a minute... this is so counterintuitive to many DU posts I've read...
there seemed to be this giant claim that somehow Lamont's victory over Lieberman was a "blow" to the DLC/centrist/conservative/what have you's of the DNC. Isn't Hillary a part of this cabal? And if so, why in the hell is she supporting Lamont?

I'm starting to think that there really is not division in the Democratic Party after all.

5. heh... you don't get what people have been saying about Hillary
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 03:30 PM by jsamuel
at least not what I have been saying.

She is not a moderate. She is what I would call a "political opportunist". So, when the RW is up, she leans toward them. When the RW part of the Democratic Party gets voted out, she leans with the winner.

That being said, she has been much better over the last few months.

the only divisions seem to exist in the heads of the so-called power brokers who live on planet Washington DC. The rest of us outside the beltway, the real Democrats and even many real Republicans (as in Eisenhower) belong to the common sense party.

11. Probably not as much as we think.
More likely though, Hillary is just getting a whiff of reality.

4. "...it's a difficult time for him and his family," she said
how about the families who have lost loved ones in this war, Mrs. Clinton? The war you and your pal Lieberman voted for? The one he continued to support long after Dems who voted for it finally got a clue? His "pain" pales in comparison to the lives destroyed by the invasion and occupation of a country that had NOTHING to do with 9/11. I have absolutely no sympathy for that fool.

We're beyond sick and tired of politicians who live in alternate universes and serve big business interests instead of the people who elected them.

7. Hillary should urge Joe Lieberman to go fuck himself.
Stop begging, it only perpetuates the spin that there is a split in the party over his candidacy. Joe Lieberman is now the Repuke nominee and he should be treated as such.
