I have called Senators this morning.
Lieberman, Reid, Boxer, Feinstein, Salazar, and Carper.

My message was very simple.

The Connecticut voters has spoken. Ned Lamont is the Democratic Party nominee for Senate. Joe Lieberman is not. In the interest of the Democratic Party, and in the integrity of the electoral process, Joe Lieberman must be encouraged to concede defeat. He *must* bow to the voters' will and withdraw from the Senate race in Connecticut. No other action is acceptable.

I thanked the Senators for their good work.

(Concerning the last statement: I know, I know. I don't always agree with these guys, but I saw no reason to not be polite. You get a lot further with sugar than vinegar.)

2. When his "ability to work with Republicans"............
leads to the downfall of our country it's time to get rid of him, regardless of which initial follows his name; (R) or (D). Non-partisan politics are well and good but ONLY when they lead to the betterment of our nation. Bush's disastrous policies were enabled by Mr. Lieberman, there's NO excuse for that.

But one does not make deals with the Devil.

For years, the Republicans have not given a single inch. Joe's kind of getting along basically means, "Give the Republicans what they want." The extent to which there is no compromise from the Republicans, there can be no compromise from the Democrats.

There are exceptions. There have been a few bills which have come out of recent Congresses which are based on bipartisan concensus. The recent Stem Cell Bill is a great example. The thing is that we do not need Joe Lieberman to reach these compromises. What we need is Republican Party Congress critters who will moderate their positions. The only way to achieve that end is to make those who won't pay the toll with a loss of office.

Lamont's win signals two things.

1. Democrats will stand up to Republican policies.
2. The voters have the power to remove anybody when they go against their constituency.

3. I don't think Lieberman should run as an independent....
but the guy is basically done. Stick a fork in him. I think Connecticut Dems and moderates will not think well of him if he further allies with the White House and Rove and continues to act as though he is clueless about the true state of affairs in the Middle East.
