China bracing for super typhoon impact
Saomai strengthened to a super typhoon Wednesday morning, and is currently sweeping west-northwestward around 20 mph. Landfall is anticipated to be after midnight tonight, U.S. Eastern time, along the Chinese coast south of Shanghai.

Currently packing estimated maximum sustained winds of 160 mph (this would be a category 5 storm if it was in the Atlantic Basin), Saomai could be the strongest landfalling typhoon this season along the Chinese coast. One city, Wenzhou, with a population estimated around 2.5 million, could take a direct hit from Saomai's eyewall. Coastal water rises up to 24 feet are possible if Saomai weakens little before landfall.

2. The Chinese will send in troops to evacuate civilians beforehand
It keeps down the fatalities. They don't simply sit there and say, "Get out." If this was America and you're too poor, too old, or too sick to get out, tough shit.
