Tweety to Lamont: " I'll probably get in trouble for saying this, but...
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 06:37 PM by deminks
I think the country is better off having a fine candidate like you." (paraphrase). Ned did a wonderful job on Tweety's show answering the Rupugs charges brilliantly, and left the pundits flapping. Lamont for President!

BTW, Tweety, how exactly and with whom would you get in trouble for saying something nice about a democrat? Inquiring minds want to know.

4. He is. Enjoy this Mehlman segment.
I caught it earlier; Tweety actually roughs him up a little.

Don't worry, it won't last. :-)

to see him in uniform, with his sleeves rolled up and a stuffed crotch before he formed a true opinion.

6. Yeah- who would he be "in trouble" with, exactly?
God knows he's shown all kinds of political bias in the past, so it can't be that he's concerned about the regular viewers.

18. Matthews collects "honoraria" from conservatives
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 07:21 PM by OzarkDem
pay to play journalism, I guess. He's just hedging his numbers and his corporate masters know where his true loyalties are...

http://schapira.blogspot.com/2006/03/about-chris-matthews.html

According the Think Progress, Chris Matthews “has received tens of thousands of dollars in exchange for delivering speeches to corporate interest groups” with ties to the Republican party. As Think Progress noted, Matthews's collection of these fees “appears to be in direct violation of NBC's policy prohibiting its employees from accepting such fees.”

11. The fact he said something good about a Democrat
Will now have the RW pointing to that very quote for the next decade as the definitive example of liberal bias in the media.

Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 07:11 PM by DemReadingDU
I admire you, you're a fine candidate, but I can't support you.

edit to add: So if Matthews doesn't support Lamont, then he supports Lieberman? or the Republican Schlessinger?

21. He can't publicly support anybody
I'm sure that's in his contract.

Has anybody ever heard Matthews say "I'm voting for so-and-so, and I think you should, too"? I don't watch him regularly, so feel free to correct me.

In 1988, he wrote a newspaper column in which he gave his reasons for voting for Dukakis over Bush the Preppy, but he was in a little bit different role then.

22. Not heard Matthews endorse anyone during a campaign
But about a year ago, I did hear Matthews say he did vote for Bush 1 time. He didn't say if that was in 2000 or 2004.

19. How he can get in trouble (without reference to partisanism)
Matthews' statement is a judgment that Lamont is a better candidate than Lieberman. Unless Mathews is supposed to be an opinion maker like George Will, then he shouldn't say that, regardless about who he is saying it.

The statement doesn't necessarily mean that Matthews agrees with Lamont; it could mean that Matthews believes that Lamont brings a sharper focus on important issues and the differences between Republicans and Democrats. I think everybody can agree on that, regardless of one's personal views on Mr. Bush, Mr. Lieberman or their war.
