Apparently, we all need drugs |
|
Does anyone else have a problem with the extreme number of commercials on the "news" channels on tv that are telling us that we have a problem with this or that, but just might not know it yet? We have to buy some damn drug to take care of a problem that we never knew we had?
I'd rather take a placebo.
Have you gone to your doctor, and paid him a small fortune for the visit, and asked him to prescribe any of these "wonder" drugs?
I must be behind the times.
Drugs! Gotta have'em, gotta take'em!

Personally, I'm the kind of person, who waits until my arm is about to fall off, before I go to the doctor. I dislike hospitals, they put me off, but I have seen people who seem to live at clinics/hospitals, who are on a lot of different drugs.
My father in law is the biggest hypchondriac I have ever met. He gets a cramp in his arm, and he goes out and gets meds for it, he gets pain meds, or whatever the doc will give him...same with everything else. I swear this man prays for some ailment so he can complain about it. He complains and gripes to no end about all his pains, at times, its so aggravating. The money he spends on pills, vitamins alone is enough to make me shake my head....
With the advent of all these drug commericials, I think it "preys" on people like my father in law, albiet I know there are people out there who do "need" these drugs.....
I need drugs myself, I am on a bloodthinner, and I take the average OTC drugs, aspirin, nyquil, things like that...I do think its weird that all these drugs are being advertised so blantantly. It seems to be a more common experience nowadays.

11. My sister is the same way |
|
she has a twitch of some sort, and gets a pill for it that she is now taking for the REST OF HER LIFE.
I take old fashioned blood pressure meds, but refused recently to add Lipitor. I don't personally give a shit what my cholesterol is, since not one independent study ever showed it as reducing the risk of stroke or heart attack.
Why should I take a pill that costs big money for the REST OF MY LIFE that hasn't been shown to reduce my risks?

are a lot of people, hypochondriacs out there...I hate taking meds, its a pain, and yet I find it CRAZY that their are people out there who, well, desire to be on as many pills as they can...with my father in law, I believe its an engrained trick, to garner attention.
He had a rough life growing up, and the only time he was treated with any kindness was when he was sick, so hence...he acts sick/hurt/in pain, to garner kindness...when in fact, he doesn't need to do that anymore...but the old saying goes "can't teach an old dog new tricks", its completely engrained into his mind...

however, the good lord apparently intended for us to reproduce at 13 and croak at 40 as a grandmother, and since i am not willing to fall in line with this from my perspective shitty plan for my life, yes, i do need drugs, if only the birth control pill -- and i recognize that as i outlive nature's plan for human life i will need some drugs to prolong my healthy existence
"i'd rather take a placebo" -- well, i wouldn't, no placebo and no amount of thinking positive ever stopped a teen-ager from turning up pregnant and somehow i doubt they do much for heart disease or cancer either
the reality is, if you live long enough, yeah, we all do need drugs eventually

...from big pharma to allow similar advertizing there. It's being resisted, though, so sanity may just prevail.
My wife is British and, on our recent return to the US, she was appalled by all the drug advertizing. She said, "why are all you Yanks so ill?" after a particularly inane ad about some woman who seemed to need 90 different painkillers just to be able to play catch with her five year old. This was followed by some restless-leg nonsense, Roseacea guff and Acid Reflux baloney. To any sane outside observer, it looks like we're all about one pill from the mortuary.
I'm sure America's doctors are just delighted by all their 'TV-MD' patients who turn up demanding this or that drug, too. I mean, why spend ten years in medical school when you can learn everything you need to cure any disease from the idiot-box?

have you had an erection for over four hours?
Pharm victim: yes. Well, yes I have.
If it is painful to the point that you are tired of looking down and seeing it, would you like to do something about it?
Pharm victim: yes. Well, Yes I would
Please, do not find a sexual partner, and do not ever masturbate. Don't you think another drug to end your painful erection would be better?
Pharm victim: Well, I dunno. Does it cost less than a prostitute?
