How Other Issues May Have Played A Factor In Lieberman's Loss |
|
Perhaps some of our Connecticut DUers can help me on this one.
All the focus has been on how Lieberman's stance on the Iraq war sealed his fate.
But I'm really curious as to if some other issues might have also played a part in his loss as well.
For example, Lieberman sided with hospitals on the issue of the morning-after pill. He basically said that if a health care provider doesn't want to give a victim of rape the morning-after pill for religious/other reasons, then the woman should get in her car and drive to another hospital to get it.
He expects a tramautized victim of a violent crime to hop in their car and go to another hospital for treatment!
And I'm wondering how much issues like that played a part in his loss.
Enlighten me, please.

Discussions of Liberman's disconnect from his constituency have been discuused all over the Left blogsphere. The morning after pill contoversy was just one small part of it.
A lot was made of his voting with Dems 90% of the time, but he voted on issues with Dems he knew wouldn't win, and against ones he knew might win. For example, he voted for cloture on Alito, when the only way to stop Alito getting to the SCOTUS was a filibuster. He then turned around and voted against Alito on the confimation which had no chance of succeeding. The critical vote was the cloture vote, not the confirmation vote.
There's lots of other examples, you can find them on Jane Hamsher's site.
