Traveler's dilemma.. You have a $2k laptop & a designer handbag

do you "risk" it and put it in "checked baggage"..or do you forfeit the airline ticket price and just stay home?

Or do you book passage to Alabama and buy it back from the lost luggage warehouse store..?

Or include a note to the baggage handler who will lift it and take it home?

2. I would never check a 2k laptop

I would take it as a carry on though...and have in the past, with lesser laptops....:)

Speaking of which the TSA stopped my brothers from smuggling firecrackers into the state of Alaska...ten days ago...

one on each end.

Next - purses/totebags that are clear..I don't have the jack to do that but SOMEONE will come up with designer clear baggies for your travel needs...just you watch.

5. Musicians have always had this problem

especially where instrument cases are borderline with regard to size for hand luggage. No banjo jokes please but even amateur banjo players have got antique instuments valued at up to $ 20000 and well beyond that.

I will not fly to the Caribbean for my Nov cruise if I can not take my camera and laptop. Same goes for my New Zealand cruise.

the camera thing & cruising reminded me of something that happened to us one time.. remember the old instamatic cameras with the lever thing on the side that you manually advanced with each picture?

As wel pulled out of Miami for a cruise, my husband took a picture and the lever thingie broke off in his hand.. we had to buy a camera on the ship (not a smart thing to do)..

I can't imagine making them permanent.

Too many businesspeople need their laptops to do work on board...and aren't going to want to entrust them to baggage handlers in any event. Not just because of damage, but because of the chance of someone getting to the information inside.

Then, there's someone like me. I have a photography business. If I get sent on an assignment to somewhere out of the country, or even a few hundred miles away, there's no way on earth I'm going to drop my camera equipment backpack on a conveyer belt and trust that it will make it to its destination undamaged. And I doubt many oridnary tourists would be willing to take that chance with their cameras or camcorders, either.

10. when my boys flew to grandma's house we always boxed up their

stuff and sent it ahead.. They went with books to read on the flight..and that was IT.. No carry on no luggage..

Nothing to get lost:)
