Jim Axelrod spoke with Press Secretary Tony Snow about the U.S.'s involvement in the British investigation of the alleged terrorist plot. Snow says President Bush has been aware of the plot for days.

They also knew about the 9/11 plot for 18 months

It was planned at an al-Qaeda summit in Kuala Lumpur that was attended by Atta's roommate and the Flt. 77 hijackers. The CIA videotaped the whole thing and then followed the Flt 77 hijackers as they entered the US on 01/15/00 - the FBI liason at the CIA Counter-Terrorism Center was ordered not to send a cable about their entry to the FBI National Security Office in NY.

The Agency and a couple foreign intel agencies illegally monitored the plot inside the US without obtaining FISA warrants. For some reason we don't understand yet, that surveillance was relaxed enough in the late summer of 2001 so Atta and the gang could carry off the plot that the Agency had told the Bushites about much earlier. True, MI5 stands for "Military Intelligence Section 5". Problem is, the entity you're referring to isn't called "MI5", and hasn't been since 1931, when it was renamed the "Security Service". It's attached to the Home Office, not the military. Your mistake is understandable, since the defunct name "MI5" is so popularly entrenched, even the Security Service itself uses it. It's a nickname, and since it has no official standing, it could be argued that it doesn't really stand for anything.

Who really knows what the CIA and other well funded lettered agencies does anymore now that it is almost entirely a controlled political entity and professionals are under attack by political hacks.
